My insurance is taking the p*ss
Hello there most worthy followers of the Scoobynet . .
Here is my problem . . Insurance is up for renewal soon . .Had a trouble free year of motoring (aside from an SP20 given to me by a ginger copper in an unmarked SKODA) . . .So I give them a call to discuss - and guess what . . .They are asking for 500 quid more than what I payed last time . .
Totally indignant, I ask why , and do they consider it reasonable to tax me 500 pounds extra over a crappy SP20, inspite of a trouble free year of motoring . .
The reply was that its not necessarily because of the SP20, but rather because the criteria for the risk assessment have changed . . (what ever that means . .) . .
Right . . .Question . .
Is insurance not supposed to go down year on year, and is my insurance company trying to rip me off . . And
Can anyone, please recommend an insurance company so i could collect some quotes . .
MAny thanks . .

As you all know my WRX300 is in her name for insurance reasons but even hers went up £100 for no reason whatsoever! She rung them and got it reduced £50, and accepted the rest as a general premium increase.
Yes, if your circumstances change, like say over 25, 30 etc, insurance will go down. But premiums still go up every year anyway.....inflation and all that..
Mark
BTW hers was £405

insurance
i don't know how old you are which plays a major factor. My insurance from norwich union is £670 a year ( 48yrs old) and live near maidstone kent .
I do think your insurance quote is also guided by where you live though they would not admit it .
Have you tried Direct line or Tesco or even Hastings Direct ?

I pay £300 or so .......
If you speed then you are a bigger risk ... I don't want your speeding to end up costing ME more money - therefore YOU are being asked to pay for your disregard for the law (I find that VERY reasonable myself!)

take a look in the insurance section on here and phone around.
most companies aren't too fussed with you having 3 points (if that's all you've got) as it's so commonplace.
would expect a small increase but that's taking the mickey a bit!

we need to know more details in order to reccommend(sp) a different insurer.age,is it garaged, how long have you had the car is it modded,do you have any no claims etc etc.all these factors can help us pick the best insurer to suit you.if you've owned the car for a while and its modded, the two best to go for are a plan(thatchem branch)or kieth michaels 02086427868 ask for gary.if its unmodded then the usual ones will do.

Try ringing around. I've saved another £200 this year, which my old company were then happy to match. (proving they were ripping me off in the first place for the extra £200 ) They did this 2 years ago as well. Suffice to say I changed companies this year.

I had my car PPP'd and L&V kicked me into touch as they dont cover "modified" cars any more. This turned out to be an absolute godsend as Gary @ Keith Michaels saved me over £100 on my un-PPP'd quote!

Thank you very much for your replies (except PS LEWIS - because he's irritating) . . I will surely now shop around . . .ITs just i find the whole episode v.strange to be sure . . .
Completely standard WRX300 05 REG - unmodded or modded . . You decide . .PPP is a standard feature of the car, and insurance companies that would not normally touch modded cars, recognise the spec and are prepared to insure it!
I'm 27yo
Tracker protected (Trackstar). .
Garaged over night
Super glass installed . .
6 point on the license . .All SP code
Will be 4 years no claim quite soon, and yet the ask me for 500 quid more! With no particular reason . .

Try Groupama.
They were £594 for me but I'm an auld thirtsomething. (via A-plan)
They'll charge more for engine mods/exhausts etc but may not charge more for cosmetic mods.
Avoid Admiral if you have mods as they only pay for standard parts !

no doubt, you've got the insurance friendly points (if there is such a thing!) but 6 points is 6 points and will close a few doors for you insurance wise
i'm sure you'll get a better price than you've had so far though
how long untill the first lot come off?

with those details mate,i would have thought most of the usual companys would give you a good quote, but its definately worth trying the specialists just to get an idea(a plan thatcham, and kieth michaels)i've tried a fair fiew and these two are the best by far IMO.and my car is pretty well modded,garaged,3 yrs ncb,9 pnts(sp30),had the car for 3 yrs and i was 35 at my last renewal.a plan quoted me £879,kieth michaels have just quoted me some where in the 600's and thats with a 2.5 running high bhp.
