serious question:200mph
how many in this country have actually achieved 200mph?any at elvington? and what rough power would you say it would take for a 2 door to achieve this level?
i ask this because yesterday my mate who runs a basically standard sti ver 5(i think its 5,looks a bit like a p1?) type r (VERY rare) claimed he was happy in the knowledge that his car would do 212 at elvington! i couldnt take it,and told him he was a **** and bet every wage packet ill EVER earn for the rest of my life on the fact it wont,he then said he had heard that someone had already done it,but it was possible because they fitted a group n gearbox (seriously, thats what he said! ) so i told him that hed need at LEAST 600bhp to maybe get there and ive only seen ONE car do 200 at elvington,a 1000bhp supra, his reply? god thats ****,i dont need that much!ARGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!
has anyone heard of this mythical car of his? and are my wages safe?
i think somewhere it was written that its about 22 mph per 1000rpm in 5th on scoobies so hed need nigh on 10,000rpm in 5th!
and how much power does andy forest run?at the wheels or flywheel?rough figures if nothing else

5th gear did a project and spent a fortune increasing the BHP on a twin turbo V8 Esprit. Cant remember what the the final power output was that they obtained, but it was in the region of 600. Unfortunately, the gearbox kept breaking and they failed to get it close to 200mph. Surely the drag CD and gearing would restrict a Scoob getting close to 200?

Andy Forrest did 210 mph IIRC. Don't know power figures - but must be 800bhp+ and gearing to suit - ie not standard Type R ratios.....

The Scooby is already shaped like a house-brick, to take it anywhere near that you would need a huge amount of power. (not to mention the gearing )
...and as for the Group N gearbox -

A type R wont do 200 on std gearing. On UK gearing you could see and indicated 210 (ish) at 8000rpm, but not forgetting at elvington you have to accellerate to that from a standing start in 1.25? miles. Even if you had the legs for 200, some serious shove is required to reach it in that space.
Group N gearboxes are silly ratio's for road cars, maybe 130 (at a guess) flat out in 5th?

This details Andy's car somewhat, in particular the gear ratios. 60 in 1st, 100 in 2nd etc!!. It also says his 210.1mph was done on larger drag tyres so increased the gearing a little further...

No way in hell a std STI5 Type R will go that fast, you might get around 155mph on the limiter but that's about it.
I doubt if you'd get it up to 212mph filling it with gravel and dropping it from a plane, it's not a very slippery design with all the bumps, wings and spoilers.
Look at what Andy F did for his high speed runs, big tyres to increase the gearing, no wing/scoop, all gaps at the front taped up etc etc. And that was with well over twice the power of a standard STI5 Type R.
