It's easy to overtake with a shopping trolley when someone like psLewis is driving the car in front!

To be fair i think i could have overtaken that sti driver in my escort TDI LOL, Bet he needs some new break pads............

The lines of the guy in the sti are ermm.....conservative shall we say. Goes to show that most people would be better off spending money improving their driving skills than making their car faster.

Sounds and looks from the inside very trick. However it looks as though its an amateur day out with whoever is in the Clio knowing exactly what they are doing.

If the STI is stock and the clio modded then performance would be a match.

The Clio is a lot quicker into the corners. As above looks like the clio driver is more confident and carry speed into the corners. The STI is breaking like you would on the road - nice and early and gently. I think the STI lifted to let him go by as well as on the previous straight he didn't seem to gain ground.

Which I would have done to be honest as the Clio was right up his rear on the corners for a track day driving your pride and joy. At the very start the Clio seems caught out by the slow corner speed of the STI and nearly rear ends him.

That's one 'piece of sh1te' clio!...... it's so obvious that the STi had him all the way, the only difference was that the Clio driver didn't mind denting his 450 quid banger, whereas the STi driver thought "what a Chavy ****, I'd better just ease off and let the barry-boy past as he's gonna brake tooo late and **** me if not"

Clio's are barry-boy cars end of...................

I would imagine modified for the track and stripped out - obvioulsy knows his stuff on a track compared to the STI.

reverse the tables and have the same driver in a modified and stripped out STI that has has handling upgrades, i doubt the Clio would get close.

Thats a Williams Clio so Id expect its worth more than £450. Never owned one but have been in one and they are bloody quick for what they are.

It is painfully obvious from that vid that the Clio is stripped out for the track *check out the instrument panel and the side wondow in the opening picture* and is running more power than std. Is it just me or can anyone else hear a turbo (?) and IIRC stock Williams Clio's weren't turbos

As for the video referring to the Sti driver as a chump, er, why? Is it not possible that he didn't know the track as well, or that his car simply wasn't set up for the track? At least he wasn't the one who nearly rear-ended someone!!!

Only chump there is the one who named the video!!

come on guys, I am sure that you can think of more excuses than these

cooling down lap?
heat soak?
wrong petrol?

there must be loads more excuses as to why the Clio is faster

How about the Clio was the quicker car around that track- how much of that was down to the car or the driver, who knows!

It's the attitude reflected in the video's title that gets on my wick. There's nothing surprising about the video itself at all.

The clio went past a clio v6 at the start of the clip so it must be quite quick

so 160bhp v 262bhp, well shows you how much the clio driver was paying attention when it nearly went into the back of the scoob on that corner due to another car being spun out.
Nothing wrong with driving at your own pace on a race track either if its your first time, but pushing it, the STi would leave the clio.

As indeed it does for much of the video despite the STi being driven more like it's on a road than on a track, as some OP's pointed out earlier.

Nice to see the Subaru moving over to let the quicker car past him ...NOT...... Fair play to the clio driver for not getting impatient.

looked like a fast Clio to me

the STi wasn't driven amazingly well but I'm sure I would do worse. Proves to me that we all need a bit of driver training, especially us in faster cars

that's not a Williams, wrong colour but has the 16V RSI bonnet. LAD motorsport do turbo conversions and if you took some weight out and set it up for track it would be a little monster. Great fun indeed...

I thought the STi slowed down on the straight to let the Clio by too. The Sti was defo quicker in a straight line but looks like they didn't have the track knowledge and confidence through the corners like the Clio driver had.

Actually it is the right colour for a ***** and has the correct bonnet (ie 16v/exhaust cooling vent). The RSI was an 8v, so no such thing as a 16v RSI I'm afraid..!

Not saying it is a williams, but if it's 160bhp then it probably is a modded one as most modded 1764cc 16v'ers only make ~140-150 tops. Either way it is obviously a stripped out (~800kg) quick track car. As said the STi does start to pull away on the straights, but the driver, for what ever reason, is not confident enough. Probably due to the fact that he has what looks like a £500 shed stuck up his £24k chuff..!

Lol, how supprising that gutman 'Gary' pug pops up..! Got any more of those 'ka-ching' sound effects..

Maybe its my screen, it looked a sort of dark green to me - although i am pretty bad with colours anyway. Whatever it is and however its modded, its quick and it pulls too. I heard there is a turbo-ed stripped out Micra round Derby but i'm yet to see it.

There really wasn't a lot in it on the straights, although clearly the Clio didn't have what it took to overtake in a straight drag race. It was however carrying a lot more corner speed - partially as the driver was clearly familiar with the track, pushing hard and pretty capable, and partially as it didn't look like the STi was exactly being pushed to the edge by a top driver.

I have to agree completely with Gary - the STi should have let the clearly much faster car past well before the overtake actually happened.

The other thing I'd say was more impressive than being able to beat a scoob was the way it appeared to be hauling in something much lighter and more suited to track work at the very end of the clip. Despite what people on here may think, any reasonably sorted decent lightweight 7-esqe kit cars and the like is going to be a much faster and better dry track car than any standard UK scoob. Wouldn't be a close contest between a caterham superlight or similarly quick lightweight kit against a normal spec C round a lot of dry tracks, either. (obviously in above cases, assuming both are driven equally well as the driver is the biggest single factor in any of these things)

Think about power to weight ratio here. There is a lad off of the Clio forums whos car is a stonking 401bhp.

The words "sh*t off a shovel" spring to mind.

Good luck to them I say.

fwd cars in my exp seem to be more predictable on the limit and 4wd esp scoob seem to handle badly (unmodified) yet grip well and have more tolerance to mistakes yet to not reward good drivers sufficently on the limit. corner exit seems the only advantage in 4wd cars.

I don't think that's a turbo. Just a bit of a whine heard from lack of insulation. If I was driving that scoob though I would have let him straight past as soon as he turned up in the mirror. That's a good reason for only going to the £10K or over trackdays.

The Clio could have had 110BHP and still caught and past the STi. He was quite clearly a more experienced track driver.
