Question Anyone had PPP fitted recently ?

I'm thinking about putting my hand in my pocket and getting my MY04 WRX fitted with the PPP system. I'm told its a good upgrade and I'm just wondering if anyone has had one fitted recently and can tell me whats the best price you were quoted and do you think it was worth it. Even better if you live in the north east of england, you can tell me where you went and if you'd recommend them.

I did know of one of these kits going cheap from a subaru dealership (someone wanted it took of the car) I'll find out if they still have it for you.

Thumbs up

Just do it.

I had it put on for £950.00 when I bought my 54reg wagon in April. Definately makes a difference.

Dealers were given quite a scope for discounts at that time but I don't know the situation now!

Dave.

They seem to be ranging from £1600 to £2000 depending on dealer..

Do a search for "PPP" and you will find plenty on the subject...

You'd be better going for a centre and uppipe decat + sportscat downpipe (so you still pass emmisions tests) and an EcuTek remap. Probably cost around £1500, but will perform better than PPP. (Around 280bhp)

The reason I'm saying that is because I have PPP and now upgrading to the above. Save yourself some cash in the long run and have extra fun by going to the above straight away.

thanks all. my only question scooter is where do I stand on the warranty if I go with your suggestion ? my car is still only 20 months old.
ie. would it only affect the warranty on that aspect of the car or would it affect the whole thing ?

OR (and I hate to ask this question)

am I better saving my pennies seriously and trading in for an STi in a year or so's time ?

DISCUSS....

STi. You know it makes sense

The decat route will void your warranty, but it depends on your dealer. I've been to two and both were accomodating with mods. I've had struts changed without hastle.

I chose the decat route too, hearing/reading the disappointments with the PPP.

Y decat...why not a sports CAT....my understanding is that the PPP simply needs a remap to bring it up to speed.....

What are the typical effects on insurance with modifications like these?

I had my MY05 WRX PPP'd after a couple of months of ownership and love it!

I had the PPP solely as I wanted to retain the warranty and have a mod that didn't make the car too difficult to sell when that time came.

The insurance for me wasn't too bad with PPP - it did add a bit but finding an insurer wasn't difficult .... I tried Keith Michaels and A-Plan both of who were more than happy with the PPP as brokers / insurers in the know regard it as a 'moderate' modification rather than a significant one.

Performance wise the PPP is not too radical and matches the car really well. Don't get me wrong though - it is very noticeable compared to a standard WRX!!!

I am sure you will get a more noticeable power gain by other remaps but, as I say above, I did it for the resale ability and most importantly to me the warranty.

If I remember correctly, Mike Wood did some negotiations last year and PPP is now officially recognized (? by ABI) as a "manufacturer" modification so it should be cheaper to insure a PPPd car than one with aftermarket mods. I'm not sure of the exact details, but A Plan confirmed something along these lines when I renewed my policy with them recently.

Ring around for your best prices on PPP. Make sure that you say that it's for an 04 reg car. I think that the £1600 - £2000 statement above is for an 06 car (although I could be wrong ). As I said £950.00 for mine but I did buy the car at the same time.

Just bought a MY04 wagon with PPP and well impressed. So much smoother and pulls from lower revs. Extra insurance over a MY01 WRX was £80, and that was mainly because of the increased value.- Keith Michaels.
I almost bought a WRX without PPP and had a quote of £1100 for fitting from Triangle of Chesterfield, but be quick, apparently there are only four kits left nationwide.........so they said

I had an 03 wrx ppp and it was better mid-range with less effort than the 03 STI. The reason why I changed was so I could get the TSL333 on the STI.

I've had a standard wrx a PPP STI and a WRXPPP and now a TSL333. For s wrx you must have at least the PPP as it makes it so much more driveable with so little effort.

It also works out the best for fuel economy.

Im sure there are other aftermarket upgrades for your wrx but i'm just going off my own experiences.

There are definately deals to be done on PPP's, contact 3 or 4 local dealers and ask them for a price. See what you get back (minimum saving should be £100 to be honest). I had mine done recently and its worth asking around. Try the dealer you got your car from for starters.

I've got to give them a call today, so i'll find out. I might have been confusing them with Admiral, because i also asked them for the new premium price.

Default PPP

I'm in very much the same boat, bought 05WRX six months ago and am now considering PPP to keep warantee. It is a bit expensive though! In the Hampshire area the best quote I've had so far is £1600. Grim. Anyone done any better recently?

My mate had one of the first McRae series (about 10 years ago) and I remember the PPP on that making a big difference.

Shop around mate, you might be surprised what you can get. Only down side is you might have to travel a bit to get it done, still if it saves a few hundred quid for a bit of petrol its got to be worth it!
