Colin McRae's derogratory comment on Subarus
#1
I'm not a regular poster but felt I had to post this. McRae interviewed in the Guardian last week, said that it was great driving for Ford 'cause it meant he could drive Jags, Astons etc. The drivers he felt sorry for was the "poor guys driving for Subaru".
Nice bit of loyalty for his old employer and Subaru fans...

I can't believe he said that about the team that launched his career!!!? Where is his loyalty? I wouldn't mind getting paid to anything myself. With all that money you could but whatever motors you like, I know I would.

He;s got a valid point!
He gets to drive Aston Martin Vantages/Jag XKR's etc etc whilst SWRT drivers get Impreza;s legacys and justy's. He's only having a laugh - blimey!
If he could only drive Focus' he'd probably wish he was still at Subaru though.

I have been out on a serious drinking session with Colin and he is a different bloke away from the cameras.
Two points here...
He didn't say this while he was driving his Galaxy company car
He still has his 22B

Lee, I didn't really follow all his travels, but I immediately assumed it was just some urine extraction Colin is a clever bloke (without whom we would al be driving Fords BTW ) Same goes for Richard Burns BTW, these are all people that got very far in an extremely challenging 24/7 job. You don't get there just being a **** methinks.
PS: P9 SWRT ... is that an ex Burns or ex McCrae car ? I drooled over it yesterday BTW

Ford can put CM behind the wheel of their Explorer SUV and prove to the judge that the vehicle is inherently safe even when its Firestone tyres split apart, only the other drivers are to blame. Is it coincidental that he didn't mention that he get to drive the Explorer too?

Evilbevel, Whas there a scoob driving that plate in the condroz?
I drove past your car parked sunday at the rally? (along the road between vierset and Modave) I would have taken a picture if I didn't have to follow our out of control minibus...
btw, I pulled my scoob along both the WRC's of Loix and Boxoen on the highway and I got a very friendly wave back I've got a pic to prove it

Evil,..
The R and P cars from SWRT are from 1997,...so it must be McRae/Liatti/Eriksson.
The P9 and the P7 we saw in Belgium last weekend where drivin by McRae in Tour de Corse and San Remo.
The T13 SRT (Snijers) was drivin by Burns in 1999.
Results 1997:
1st Rallye Monte Carlo Liatti/Pons P3 WRC N° 4
1st Rallye de Suède Eriksson/Parmander P5 WRC N° 4
1st Safari rallye McRae/Grist P8 WRC N° 3
1st Tour de Corse McRae/Grist P9 WRC N° 3
1st Rallye N.Zellande Eriksson/Parmander P11 WRC N° 4
1st Rallye San Remo McRae/Grist P7 WRC N° 3
1st Rallye d'Australie McRae/Grist R18 WRC N° 3
1st Rallye RAC McRae/Grist P12 WRC N° 3

About a year after joining Ford, McRae was interviewed and was asked what he drove day to day. He responded that he had a Subaru 22b which he said that he thought was the best road car he had ever driven....
...he got an absolute bollocking from Ford - hence the realigned stance above!

What does it matter!
Next year Richard Burns will be singing the praises of Peugeot.
The guys who own Series McCrae Impreza's will still have them and so will the guys with the RB5. And if they are put up for sale there will, I suspect, be lots of takers.
As far as "loyalty" goes I think this is something that can be seriously affected by your salary.
