Default washing a scooby

What is the best way to wash a 2006 STI type UK?

Any advice?

Also it has those pink stickers on which say Sti, when all the foam goes on those, won't they get washed away eventually!? The sticker will come off.

Is it advisable to wax over the stickers as well??

You want to put it on a 30c wash to make sure the pink does not run. I find its good to spray vanish on the wheels before you put it in the washing machine..

I put mine on a hot rinse last week and it shrank When I took it out it looked like a Daewoo Matiz

As an aside, Billy forgot to recommend fabric conditioner which helps if you leave the windows down to make the seats more ironable

On a serious note, my local DIY jetwash is excellent

How can someone post asking how to wash a f*cking car? Get a bucket, some detergent and a cloth; fill with warm water and wash the f*cking thing!

Get a grip man, for f*cks sake!

And don't forget to carefully wire-brush the stubbon bits of grime off! Serious note: My scoob is black so after using AutoGlym dark polish resin I supaguarded the exterior... won't need a polish for three years!

I was thinking the same

Bucket, suds, sponge. Wash off any loose dirt, sponge top to bottom, wash off and dry

I could go one step further by using a seprate sponge if its really bad, to do sills and other muddy bits to prevent grit getting on the main sponge.

Hose off with water (seriously, its the best stuff )and Dry with a wiper blade thingy (not "a" wiper blade ) and leather the last bits with a synthetic leather.

Don't apply pressure, unless you like polish swirls

If its hot a sunny, sud and wash off a panel at a time and keep it wet until your ready to dry to prevent streaking.

Oh god, now I'm getting **** too

I use this really good stuff that works a treat at getting all the muck and grime off, its called water and car shampoo... put it in bucket, get a sponge and put the magic washing stuff on it and apply to the car... mind you, you best watch out for those manufacturers stickers, they might come off with a bit of water... I think Subaru stick them on with Pritstick...

Good lord...

Not if you go to Halfrauds and buy the LameOL Sticker Wax and apply 4 coats allowing 15 minutes between each application

It really does depend on the quality of the vinyl used for the stickers.

They are probably more likely to fade and start cracking from sunlight and UV than you washing it (unless you use washing up liquid). Avoid polishing them with agressive polish compounds (such as T-cut, Mer - fine on good solid paint, just not the stickers).

Put it this way, we have a fleet of vans with vinyl stickers. Done at different times, by different people. Some are cracking, pealing and fading, yet some older ones aren't. All the vans are treated the same (and probably washed with fairy liquid by whoever drives it and takes it home ).

Nah the stickers won't come off when washed or polished.

If they do (which they won't) there are lots of places to get replacement stickers from

Neat Fairy does remove tar, grease and light fallout though, handy if your run out of tar remover

Polish and Re-wax afterwards though.

Congrats on your purchase! (I personally would have gone for an import)

I wash mine (maybe too) regularly, and i've not had any problems with 'erasing or wearing away' the stickers.

Pix to prove it:

My only advice would be; now you got it, just enjoy it!!!

Come on Phil, to be fair:

Someone who is old enough to buy an '06 STi, asking - "How do you wash my car" is pretty

But:

A) The vast majority is tongue-in-cheek
B) Lets be honest about it, most 12 year olds know how to wash a car.
C) As for the stickers question, why would manufacturers stickers fall off because the car has been washed??

Ask the same question here>>>>>> CAR CARE SECTION

You may get the answers you are looking for.

Believe it or not there are alot of people on here who know what you mean when you ask for advice on keeping your newly purchased pride and joy in showroom condition......using fairy liquid and a sponge don't quite cut-it in my opinion.

He's got 25 post's under his belt... so he's not a new-newbie... and he's taken it on the chin, so I reckon he'll do just fine

Evian you say? I find the calcium content too high - it can be VERY abrasive

(on a serious note... sponge is bad you say? Damn those polish swirls! )

:wanders off to the car care forum:
