Question uk turbo fuel economy

Hi all. Car is a 97 uk turbo more or less standard no big bhp. I think in the last few months the fuel consumption is getting a lot worse. My typical day is driving to and from work which is a ten mile trip there and ten back and usually takes around 40 mins to get there and the same back. I can be stuck in traffic a bit from time to time so I know this wont help. At the moment I seem to be averaging 200-220 maybe to a full 60 litre tank. Does anyone on Scoobynet think thats good? average or bad? I should also say that I dont go mad on the throttle and try to stay below 3000 revs all the time so I am not using the turbo to full on effect to get better mpg. I have heard about bad mpg if the lambda sensor has not been changed. The car has done 67k with no lambda sensor change but has just passed an MOT and the tester told me the lambda was perfectly fine. Help anyone?

How many litres do you put in at each fill-up, usually? Do you wait for the fuel light?

The only fuel warning light on a MY97 is the oil pressure/alternator lights...they illuminate when it runs out of fuel and stalls Impressive if he can get 60litres in and not have to push the car onto the forcourt

220-240miles for city driving should much through around 50litres, works out at between 21-23mpg.

I've spent the last week or so city driving and used full boost about 5times keeping the engine manifold pressure in vacuum the rest of the time. Due to fill up tomorrow or teh day after, and its reading 220 at the 'mo. I should squeeze another 20-30 miles out of it, so I'm looking at the same mpg as I usually get (22-24mpg).

Question

No mate dont wait for the fuel light. I fill right up to the top every two weeks which is usually around 200 miles re-set the trip and then two weeks later fill up again. The needle is close to the bottom ( I do know the needle goes past the E on the empty and still has more to go though so the petrol is not right down) if you know what i mean, Are you maybe thinking the guage is quite out?

Same here on MY99 UK Turbo with full decat, filter, tek2 map. I get between 21 - 23mpg around town. 37mpg on a 60mph, 100mile motorway trip once!

Jesus m8, he's only asking!
Surely it is better knowing your average mpg? Lets you work out the rough annual cost.

Sorry pal only asking because I am not sure if something is wrong. I have had the car 6 years so know it inside from out but have not experienced this before as it has not been this bad and after 6 years I should know.

When i bought my Scoob it horrified me how bad consumption was - believe it or not getting it remapped will make it a little better - until you put your foot down that is

Supercar performance - Supercar fuel consumption unfortunately

You have to swallow it sometimes

Wink

best is about 28mpg. Yeh I knew the car was a gas guzzler before I signed up and have put with it for 6 years but recently thought it was using more than ever for some reason, thats all. I know you can not have 50 mpg and the performance these cars can do but when you sort of think something is up, maybe a lambda you ask the experts on Scoobynet! and you get the answer buy a diesel

I've got a UK classic Turbo2000 MY00 and get between 22-26mpg on short trips around town and to work. If I'm on a longer trip have had up to 30mpg. I don't drive the car that hard all of the time but every now and then when the roads are clear and it's safe to do so I will open it up a bit.
If you are getting 22-24mpg then that sounds about right so no need to worry as my cars near enough standard. Only got a green panel filter and magnex system 1st cat with rear decat.

You don't wanna go on about 37 mpg fuel economy all the time! What you wanna do is talk about a more varied range of subjects.
