Question

Hi all. This question is just for info not a comparison so pls enlighten me.
I have a my99 turbo which has :
1)full supersprint exhaust
2)downpipe
3)fuel regulator
4)ElectronicValveController(which is 1.05 bar when opened,0.8 closed)
5)Eibach springs(standard dampers)
6)STI Carbon strut brace
7)17'' wheels with s02 pp tyres
8)prodrive settings
Can it match the STIs on corners and in performance??
If you can reply i will be very happy.
Thanks alot

In that case, why not test drive an STi and decide for yourself.

You're bound to be happier with a car that YOU think is better for YOU, rather than one that someone else recommends.

No?

What fuel do you get in Turkey? anything under 97/98 RON and you are looking at big bills for octane booster or a remap onto local fuel.

Other than that I have no idea, but do know that my STi2 with somewhere between 270 and 300 hp isn't much faster than a UK car with similar mods to you straight line.

Handling wise i.e. corners any Impreza with suspension mods ie Leda etc if corectly set up will out handle the factory set up, so, as you seem to be someone who modifies their cars, it doesn't really matter.

I don't know you mate, so there is no way I will know for sure....

But you are never going to take the car to the limit on the road, and any track days or similar you do will most likely not be limited by the car, but by the driver.

As advised, GENUINELY, the best thing for you to do is test drive these cars.

You car as it is will be quicker than an STi in some situation and the STi will be quicker in others, BUT...

They may not be the situations that YOU would be quicker / slower in.

Unless you are able to drive a car on the very limit continuously through every surface change and track / road condition, you are the limiting factor in the car so you should seek a car that you feel most confortable in.

Cheers

Question

I think you(Simon) drove similarly modded uk and standard sti. Can you make a choice?
One of them must be quicker, one of them must be better on corners

There is no way of telling unless you instrument each car and put them through a very specialised test schedule.

It is not possible, they are too similar.

Also, the spec you have given of your car is all very well, but I have driven over 150 Impreza's and the only ones I've driven that have been close to being the same are the ones set-up by powerstation. All the others have their own characteristics....

You seem to dead set on asking these impossible questions, so I will tell you something...

If you put your car on Bridgestone S01 tyres and put a Ford escort deisel on Bridgstone S02 tyres and give them to a test driver at MIRA, the Ford escort will be quicker.

So, can you PLEASE see that the questions you are asking are impossible to answer. Do what we all do, and test drive them, then decide which ones you like the best.

We are not being awkward, but surely you can see by now that these questions are not getting answered for a reason. Get something constructive out of it and learn from this. Learn that these questions are pointless and irrelevant. (sp?)

Best regards

Simon

Nooo it can't be quicker of course ))
I don't want the POWERS. setup. It changes the cars characteristics i think.Without it the car's handling is awesome, with it it will be again awesome,i don't need it.My specs are good you said.Did you drove an impreza like mine???

Hi P1,

I think other posts have summed it up. I'd have to doubt that anyone could really answer your question with any degree of accuracy, because the likelihood of someone else having tried the combination of your mods, plus also tried an STi on similar roads or track is very slim.

I'd also agree earlier posts which point out that the driver is almost always the weak link, with the weaknesses being down to bottle, skill and the ability to remember and compare a feeling even after moving on to another car.

I can clearly remember my scoob feeling slower after I'd had it a month or two. It was simply me getting used to it.

P1, you really need to compare the cars for yourself. Then we can ask you how they were!

P1 WR,

didn't Simon answer your question?

You are trying to compare fundamentally the same car with very different set-ups.

BUT that is like asking Colin McRash to drive Carlos Sainz's car and enjoy it - same car, VERY different set up to suit the individual drivers. Colin will be faster in some places, Carlos will be faster in others - personal needs and style.

So, your car will be quick. STi will probably be quicker in a straight line, STi on smoother surface and on track will probably be quicker (all things being equal).

BUT, as Simon says, that is not the real world - what kind of roads do you drive on, how brave are you and how brave do your roads allow you to be.

Decide what your priorities are and then drive an STi and see if you like it. Given the various answers to the above questions your existing car could well be faster.

Put simply I selected my car based on the incredible G-force that I experienced when the turbo came on song - everything else flowed from there

Question

I generally drive it on dry roads and tracks.
My driving skills is semi-pro.You compared standard STI with std. turbo. Can you compare STI with my modded car???
If you were in my place which of them do you prefer(to your likes but my car and STI)???

Ohh sorry i misunderstood it.You compared STI with my modded.I undertood it differently.
So you said STI will be quicker on a track.
Mr Banke you said that rich's 22b is better than others so how you can't say which is better between STI and like my modded car to your likes??

Bring your car to the UK with another car and I will drive them for you and tell you which one I prefer.

I will also happily set up a full test plan for it at somewhere like bruntingthorpe and tell you which one is quicker in different situations.

But..

If you are a semi-professional driver, you should be able to answer these questions yourself.

The reason I said I like Rich's 22B is that I have driven it on the limit on 2 occasions at MIRA and at Bruntingthorpe and also on the road, including small bumpy lanes and big open dual carriage ways.

I have enough experience to say that it is the closest thing to the set-up I would choose if I were to take it on a rally stage.

The reason I can't say the same about yours is that I haven't driven it. Also...

If Rich asked me to tell him whether he should change his car for another one, I would tell him to go and test drive them, as I would have no idea which he would prefer. You may get into Rich's car and absolutely hate it. It may be the worst car you have ever driven. (I doubt it, but you never know).

You say you are semi-pro...

What do you do / how long have you been driving?

Cheers

Simon

P1,

I don't think there's any more anyone can add to your question. You have to drive the cars and not think about how they compare so much.

Can we ask questiosn now? You say you are a semi-pro driver, what kind of driving do you do - do you rally? Do you compete?

Thus, to sum up:

At lot of this comes down to your "testicular fortitude" and your personal preference.

ZZZZzzz!

Cool

I had a holiday in Turkey a few years ago.
It's a great country!

So are we suggesting a Scoobynet/SIDC trip to visit P1 WR? - Sounds excellent!

Rich
