new optimax!
my local shell garage is selling the new optimax. £1.03.9 not cheap either. they have been selling it for about three weeks now.
its octane rating is wait for it 102 to 103 ron
they have not advertised the fact that they are selling the new stuff either!
have any of you got the new stuff yet.

That price is cheaper than what my local garage is charging for the old stuff.
Haven't been for a week so dont know if they have swapped onto the new stuff yet.

so this new stuff has been around for some time then?
the only reason i no its the new stuff is. one of the staff asked me if i like the new optimax after id filled up. as i said there is nothing on the pumps that tells you its octane rating. so for the last three weeks my car has been runing at 104 to 105 ron. i also use octane boost my cars an import. i may have to stop using it now.

I think shell are going to call it V-MAX but knowing them they can't be arsed to advertise/update the pumps (might dig into their multi billion-zillion profits )

From what an owner of a large Shell garage was telling me, he is going to an official launch of the "new" Optimax later this month. I believe Snetterton is the venue.

wolfie28 you are right they are not advertising it yet due to cost.
but one thing she did say is that they dont have to advertise what is in the pumps. whitch i think is wrong.

ukjesters you've put two and two together and made five. Shell's premier fuel in Germany has been called V-power for a couple of years now, it's 100 octane if I recall correctly. Makes sense for them to have a europe wide name so when (if) they uprate optimax in the UK I wouldn't be surprised if it becomes known as V-power or similar.

Isn't 102-103RON the same RON rating as Shell Racing fuel, the stuff that the WRC cars run on????
I was told by Mike Blair at ADRMotorsport that they had to advance the timing by 18º when they used it in an Evo.

I've recently been in France and Italy where the premium Shell unleaded is called 'V Power' and is 100 octane. Have to be honest, didn't notice a much difference over Optimax though didn't rag the car.

You are in Brum. Nothing moves fast in Brum.(I used to live there)
Any tech info on the new Optimax. If the 'old' + NF booster is about 98 then at 100+ I assume you could drop the expensive NF?

Shall V-MAX or V Power has been around for ages in europe. I worked in Germany from 2001 to 2004 and it was available then, it is a bit strange that Shell havent advertised the lauch sooner. Come to think of it I noticed the price on the pump had gone up and I never even asked the staff about it !!!!!! Now I know ! Hpoefully it wont affect the mapping too much.

This is taken from another forum that I use where one of the forum members works for Shell and posted this up this afternoon following a similar thread to this one.
At the launch Shell will provide 'Vital in-depth understanding of Shell V-Power, the replacement to our ground breaking Shell Optimax brand.' as Shell have put it. So when the info comes back I should be able to provide the differences between Optimax and V-Power but they are saying its the 'next generation of performance fuel’.
Shell will probably try to push V-Power at the start of a promotion period, the next one starts 17th Aug which is too soon. So I would expect the transformation to start in September with all sites done by the end of September for the start of the next promotional period at the beginning of October.

If this is genuine then the fuel would be the same as in Europe, that being V-Max/Power rated at 100ron.
I was under the assumption that the launch was planned for next year but they may well be bringing it forward. Will be interesting to see if they run it along side Optimax (like BP with there 102 fuel only more readliy available) or whether it takes over the Optimax badge completely.
Either way you'd want to be remapping to the stuff for the extra ignition advance.

from what ive been reading about remaps. if my car is running at 104 to 105 with octane boost will it do any damage to the engine. ive allready asked the boys at the clinic and they say as long as you have 100 and above it will be fine.
this is not a wind up thread ive only posted what ive been told!
