So What Is The Score With The New STI????
Alright Guys
Had my Civic Type R for almost 2 years now, and now ive just cracked the 25 barrier it time for my first scooby.
Now i love the last Shape, especially the STI 8, and i could obviously pick one up at quite a steel now. But the new 2.5 engine with more low end, does tempt me no end. I’m not too keen on the looks of the new Scooby, but ill admit, it is growing on me. But the bad reviews its had, has turned me off slightly

So whets the feelings on the board about the new STI, is it the usual press crap about the scoob, or has the new 2.5 incarnation lost a bit of its character. I have had a search but can’t find a similar post, apologies if it’s been asked 1000 times before.

im in the same boat too mate. Just sold my CTR and looking at getting a sti. think im going for an 04 plate though not to fussed on the new shape, but i did test drive the new spec d sti and to be honest it went like sh*t off a shovel

I suggest you bouth go for the JDM cars (jap spec).
They are much better.

You will find the new cars bland, they go well and look good
but exhaust is soooooo quiet can leave you feeling uninvolved as it's EU and 3 year warranty get PPP fitted after the 1000 service it's not too noisey but will bring the burble back and retain full warranty
If not bothered about or just have 1 years warranty get the Powerstation Miltek and ECU upgrade IIRC it's louder than PPP and more power.
BTW I have a JDM MY06 2.0L T20 from Litcho with powerstaion goodies

Must admit im a bit of a warranty guy... Like the fact of the, Its broke, Fix It For Free Please aspect
Ive just seen the Euro imports with side airbags at alliance for £21495 which seems like the best one out there.
Im not actually getting a scoob till Jan, so a few more ££££s could of droped off by then...
I can imagine the 2.5 would be better on the Motorway too, I do quite a bit of motorway driving and have kept up quite nicely with Older Sti`s in my CTR at speed...
That extra .5 is tempting me .. lol
T5NYK - Lol i cant deal with a quite exhaust, the ppp would be on as soon as its broke it.. Ive got a spoon exhause on my CTR which sounds like a convoy of supebikes so i couldnt live with out no noise....
Would there be much difference between a 2.5 & a 2.0 @ 100mph to 150mph on the motorway. (Just Theory Obviousley, Not that i would ever want to drive that fast, or condone any one to do so )

Yes, they have the Warranty but all work has to be authorised by the Dealer in the country of origin (So my Local dealer informs me) long claim response times ensue.
Same sort of issues with JDM's but Litchfield off their 3 Year Warranty.

Im from Southport (North West) UK....
I like the fact that if i have any probs with an EU import i can go to my local scooby dealer in lancaster.
Unfortunately Litchfields Prices are a bit too steep.. I know its a much better car ! ! ! but the 28k is just one step to far for me I had been looking 2nd hand, but the new Aliance/Motorpoint price tempted me back to new

although the new uk shape has a 2.5 engine this was only done to help with uk emission laws - there is a reason why new jdm's are still getting the 2.0l block.
I'm with juggers and tony on this - the JDMs are better ala round cars - especially once you've taken them to powerstation for the day

the 2.5 drives and delivers chunks of power & torque much lower down the rev range than the 2.0L equivalents - try following me through the gears in your PPP 2.0L - for normal spirited driving you cant beat the low down torque

mpaul - Where have read a bad review about the MY06? Everything I've read about them speaks nothing but praise.

my only real criticism is that the older seats are more supportive on the sides when driving very fast if you are not chunky - i think they have made these seats for US behinds

Mine is due to be delivered forst week of Sept and will be ordering some suspension goodies so would like to know whether to order one of these or not.

Get a MY05 STI PPP with the Prodrive wheels and you won't be disappointed. Had mine a couple of months and I'm loving every minute of it. Handles like it’s on rails and goes like stink, turn’s heads for fun and the burble is so so sweet. I'm coming from an Evo 6 Tommi Makinen so the MY05 STI had to be something a little special and it is. I had a CTR back in 2001/2002 still the best hot hatch IMHO and I still wouldn't mind one to go in the garage along side the STI. However the STI PPP is a different beast all together.

Not this old chestnut again..!
As long as you registered the car with IM (Subaru UK) as soon as possible after purchase you shouldn't have any problems with any work, trust me..!
This was all cleared up last year, or so I thought..!
To give an example, I took my EU 05 wrx to the local dealer (whom I only ever buy filters from..!) the other day as I had a CEL light and as good as gold (knowing it's an EU car) they checked and reset it for me FOC..! There are many EU car owners on here and I'm unaware of anyone having problems with warranty claims, in fact it seems UK car owners get more grief than EU imports..! If your dealer is saying otherwise then take your business elsewhere..!
Back on topic.
If it was me I'd definitely go for a black or white 05 STI (JDM if possible) as they're excellent VFM at the moment. I wouldn't be bothered about PPP either (UK car) as I'd have it ECUTEK'd etc. IMO you'd get a mint car and few choice mods all for ~18k..
As for the 'hawkeye' 06, they definitely look much better in the flesh, so if you're only going on pics I suggest you take a trip to a local dealer..
I also would be wary of buying the 2.5 for the same reasons as others.
It's a buyers market today, more so than ever..!

The MY06 JDM STi has HID lights (but not the Spec C ) and auto I/C spray. The UK/EU STi has HID lights but no auto I/C spray.
The 2.5 was really only fitted because of Euro 4 emissions. Mr Solberg is still using the 2.0ltr EJ20 engine. For the purists (read anoraks) out there, the JDM twin scroll turbo equipped 2.0ltr is the one to have.
Now, where's my kagool ?

Why pay more for a WR1 when the 05 sti is just as good, if not better (05 mods: wider track, larger hubs, better interior etc..) and around 4k cheaper..?
Also, not many actually manage the figures claimed..!
