A friend of mines son has one on a Rover 216 and recons he gets better performance and smoother running from it. Don't know what the improvement would be with a turbo, but i'm sure someone does!

Cheers

A friend of mine has a Nissan 300ZX (Twin Turbo). He has fitted one of these Ecotec thingies and he is very impressed, I don't know about horsepower increases but he finds it a lot smoother and a bit more economical. He thinks that it is better at the top end but this is subjective.

I would be interested to know the results of having one on a Scooby though.

Cheers

Here is a copy of what a guy on the website said about one he had fitted to a scooby.

Hi,

Having had the device fitted now for just one week I am amazed.

I had it fitted at Richies Autoparts and instantly felt that the car was much smoother when accelerating and after changing gear. The biggest diference though is in fuel consumption.... I have gone from a constant 280 miles per 51 litres to a 330 miles per 51 litres, an improvement of over 4 miles per gallon.

I am a member of several Motor Clubs and have already recommended the device to the 200+ Club.

Thanks Simon.

There was a editorial in the Motoring section of our local paper last night, saying how wonderful this little device is.

Apparently by creating a swirl in the induction manifold, this device gains BHP and seriously increases the MPG figure.

And its only £44 - has anybody heard of this and more importantly tried it on a Impreza?

I know the 2001MY has got a tumble generator valve on the induction manifold, which apparently increases low down torque, does this gadget do the same thing?

Sounds like one for John Felstead..........

Please let us know......any extra MPG on a scooby can't be sniffed at.... not at the prices our government charges us for the old go go juice.....

Thumbs up

Dr Hu,
sorry for the delay in posting,i wanted to do a few tanks before posting, fitted it a month ago and basicly i,ve never had more than 21 odd mpg prior to fitting.the car feels no different but i am now getting 25/26mpg,i usually put 27.24l in 6 gallons, never had more than 120 miles, now i constantly get 150.

as for leaning the mixture ,the lambda(something like that) should monitor mixture strength i think and compensate.

cheers paul

Question

Ok I'm probably walking into a flaming, but.....

If this thingy leans the mixture then doesn't the ECU retard the timing and reduce boost and therefore power?????

If not then I'm off to buy one.

I had one of these devices on my previous car (Peugeot 405 SRI) and it was very good. Don't know about power increase, but throttle response and smoother driving in and around towns were both increased. I didn't see any fuel savings either but as the car felt more responsive I guess I drove it a bit harder. The only problem is after a few thousand miles I had to take it off and clean it out, as it had sucked in dirt and grease from the engine bay but you can now buy a small air filter for it to stop this.

Has anyone actually tried one on a scooby yet?

Sasim,
this thing does not work under boost so no reduced boost etc.you will only benefit if you can drive the car under vacuum, cruising at 70,90 etc,if you drive with foot well down all the time i dont think you will see any gains.

I wonder if this was fitted to a catless system would it pass an mot as emmissions are reduced

cheers paul

Very interesting!

Paul; What kind of driving have you been doing? How much noise does it make? Can you post a piccy of it fitted?

Cheers

Come across this myself. It seems to work by allowing outside air into the air system so that the mixture runs leaner. However, this external air seems to be unfiltered - certainly not to the same extent that normal air is filtered through the normal route. Doesn't sound safe to me...

Question

I know nothing about this device, never seen it before. Not read the bumf to see what they say about how it works.

I have a few points though.

If it was such a great new device that worked without side effects, EVERY new car would have one installed. Car manufacturers are incredibly keen on improving emisions, they have no choice, they are forced by legislation to do so.

So it begers the question, why dont they use this?

I am not into knocking products i dont understand, i am into asking why it isnt being used by the manufacturers?

Richard,
As far as I know there is a gauze filter on the valve which stops impureties from entering ....however they also sell a specially designed Pipercross Filter which attaches to the top of the valve which supposedly gives extra filtration & sound reducing qualities....
I think I'm gonna get one & see if it makes nmuch difference to the fuel consumption of the car ....if not I'll just take them up on their 30 day money back guarantee..

Regards

So we need one of these gadgets, and maybe a Broquet in the fuel tank, add a bit of Octane booster - and voila, all round better performing car without any noisy/illegal/risky mods !!!

I wonder.......

JohnFelstead, whats your take on the Broquet ?.

As I said earlier, I have used one of these devices on my previous car and it was very good, but I would opt for the optional filter as well. I will be trying one of these on my scoob within the next few weeks. As for whether it would work with a turbo charged motor have a look at
