Brand new Impreza slow??
#1
I now have a Honda Civic VTi and looking for
a new car.
I've been thinking of the Impreza Turbo for
a while and after some looking around a found
a dealer that had a brand new MY00.
The car only had 20 km on the clock and I
was the first one to drive it.
I took for a drive and didn't think it was
that fast. I hade thought that it would have
much better acceleration.
Will the car be faster when it has been run
in?

With the greatest of respect to your current car, an Impreza will be in a different league.
I had driven some very quick cars and been in some even faster ones, I had never really thought an Impreza was for me until I drove one. The speed simply blew my mind. And that was just a mildly tweaked UK car (about 240bhp). STI's faster still (that's what I bought in the end).
Even when new you should still feel the performance.
Test drive again. You won't regret it!

OK,
I didn't mean that my current car was as fast
as the Impreza I just thought that it would
have better acceleration than it did.
So back to my question, will the performance
be notisable better when the car has been
run in.
Thanks

Engine is very tight and shouldn't be taken over 4000 rpm until the first service at 1k miles. When I got my MY00 in April even after the first service I was very disappointed, with my previous Legacy Turbo providing far more grunt but as the miles approached 2000 things changed and the performance just appeared. I've now just done over 6K and it keeps getting quicker. Try test driving one with some real milage on to give you an idea what to expect later.
You won't be disappointed.

I wasn't too impressed at first - after 1k service the engine was still very tight. Between 5 and 6k miles the car felt quicker every time I put my foot down. Now very pleased with the overall performance.
MY00, 8k miles.

Frejan, hope this isn't being rude, but are you used to turbos? I wasn't, and was highly disappointed when I drove mine; thought the lag was ridiculous. Getting used to it (slowly) though!
If you are used to it, I apologise and will crawl back into my hole. But it's a thought.

No you are right, I am not used to turbos.
As I said I now own a Honda Civic VTi and as
you know they need the revs to deliver power.
I think that was the most dissapointing thing
with the Impreza was that it was lacking power
in the upper region of the revs.
I think that I need to get used to the different characteristics of a turbo car.
Maybe the power delivery will get better in the
higher revs when the engine has been run in?

Hi
I never noticed how much my car had loosened up until I drove one with only 600 miles,it was a loads slower than mine and didn't want to rev past 5k.
If you have had a revvy engine before it can feel like the top end is missing,it's not it's just there is so much more power than normal lower down the revs which is great for powering out of 2nd gear corners etc and is what makes rapid progress so easy in the Impreza.
I let a mate have a go of my uk98.He has a crx v-tech and kept tring to rev the nuts of my car.The first thing he said was how it didn't feel as fast as he thought it would and that his car felt faster. When we compared them on the road he couldn't believe how much faster my car actually was.
