spec daily driver
without sounding like an idiot i have my heart set on a whites 06 spec c. Now I know it has all the extra gubbins under the bonet but is it as harsh as people say or is it ok as a daily driver? Not talking motorway miles here just a quick blat to work and back? And how much better is it than a standard JDM Sti Dont flame me for asking dozy questions!

I have a MY06 Spec C as my company car. The only extra luxury I have fitted is a decent stereo.
It is a great car - I don't find it too harsh for day to day usage. My last car was a 993 911 which was a little more refined but just as noisy.
My previous Scoob was an STi V which was noisier.
The Spec C has a great, stiff chassis which makes it comfortable for long journeys.
The other car I have available is a BMW 5 series and I prefer to take the Spec C for long journeys (200 miles plus) if I know I can get secure overnight parking where I stay.

Its a very subjective thing mate: I know some people who happily use Caterhams everyday, whereas I certainly wouldn't.
Ring Litchfields up and ask them nicely if you can drive an STi and Spec C to compare for yourself. The Spec C may be a bit wasted on the daily commute!
Have fun!

The MY06 Spec C and Sti have a lot more in common than in the past.
The Spec C now has electric windows, speakers and wiring, and even air con.
I have a Miltek on mine - very civilised and a wicked noise on full chat.
It is not a harsh car. It is certainly not a Caterham
There is a lot less sound proofing but just get a high quality loud stereo.
I put in a Pioneer Bluetooth unit with Focal speakers, genesis stereo amp and I have a removeable self powered sub. It comes out for action days and goes in for long journeys.
With all that lot I will gain about 8kgs of the 90kgs it is lighter than the standard STi.
They are great, great cars. By far the best Subaru I have ever driven.
Try one - you will love it
PS Remember all the people complaining that the new STI and UK cars are far too refined. Enter Spec C stage left - get the action back

TBH the only way of getting some indication of if you can live with a car day to day is to go for a good test drive, not exactly a hardship!

my boss has one, you'll find that there are few lux missing like sun visor on the passenger side, cig lighter (not that i smoke), boot release etc LOL. In whole its a great car to drive and comparing to my sti its quiet and comfortable. After powerstations stage3 upgrade it has turned in to a monster yet its still great for day to day driving.

As a measure of how refined/harsh it is. I use the bluetooth handsfree via a microphone on the sun visor. I have to be going over cough, cough 90, before it gets hard for the person at the other end without me raising my voice.
