Default Is an old wrx gonna be nothing but trouble?

Hi guys, had to sell my 52 plate wrx due to needing the deposit for my first house. I loved the car and i am thinking of buying an older one just for the weekend. I am looking at the classic wrx around my94 to my98 but im worried its just gonna be an endless money pit with repairs, is this true? .
I really like the white RA special edition, any opinion on these?
I also like the terzo "333" uk cars but they are a little pricey!

Thanx guys

No not at all. I bought a 95 last year, just trying to sell the car actually had it 18 months fancy a swap but had very few problems with it. That was one of the things that put me off at the time but glad i bought the car. I had more problems with my previous car a 2000 golf turbo!

If your thinking of getting one have a look at mine in the for sale secition under "Excellent Condition - 95 WRX - For Sale"

As above, find one that's been looked after. Condition is far more important than age.

I've just bought a 96 sti ra and it's by far the best scooby I've owned

I have got an '95 STI V2 for 2 years now and the only damage was a crack at the radiator (something with age i suppose). Apart from that absolutely no problems and since I've owned it I have done 29000 miles.

Total mileage around 75K.

Like Chris said, "condition is more important than age".

I personally go for a freshly imported WRX, no rust and you'll at least have the security it hasn't been thrashed on low grade fuel. Have a good look around and you'll find one, i wouldn't worry too much about the miles, judge the car on how she looks and sounds.

Agree, even tho imports can come with little or no history, the shear conjestion situation in Japan means you can aquire low mile wrx's which have not been heavily thrashed, however bumper scuffs are common, so look at getting one auction grade 4 and above. Also undersealing may be an issue when the gritters are out this winter, something to bear in mind. Most cars are quite well looked after engine wise as strict emission laws mean cars need to be kept in good nick. Look around and take your time, the market currently is flooded with classics so you will have plenty to choose from. A very good friend who owns his own garage specialises in importation and sale of high grade quality impreza's, he currently has loads of classics, sti's, limited editions etc, might be of some use. Most cars have a good spec and are all mint condition:

good luck

Got my STI V3 after two days the check engine light kept comming on now and again, done a fault code check and showed up MAF (replaced it costing £200) and idle control value (got 2 second hand ones and still doing it).

Two weeks later the bottom end went It was due to the car being run on crap fuel (I allways use optimax plus boost). The last owner said he ran it on optimax . Got that sorted costing me £££££ 2 months later gearbox goes (lost second gear) Got that sorted costing me £££££ again.

After that I had problems with the clutch pedal not returning. Got that sorted, then it started over boosting/fuel cuts . Then the gearbox has gone again That's it so far. Had the car over a year been off the road for 8 months in total. Getting the car sorted as we speak and a remap on it's way to sort out the overboost and hopefully the check engine light.
BUT I love it It's cost me more on repair bills than the car is worth (could of bought 3 of these for the money I have spent). I just have been very unlucky.

Id second that. In my opinion, a newly imported and well looked after car will always be a better prospect than a car thats already been run in the UK: irrespective of the 'service history' that it may have. Further to that: the majority of comments/opinions with regard to imported cars and 'service history' found on ScoobyNet are spurious at the very best.
