Sensible on the part of Shell, it kinda implies that the RON is different doesn't it!

I am currently in leipzig, drove over yesterday and got chance to use 2 tanks of the 100 ron stuff on the autobahn in my RS6. All I can say is its very impressive, car feels more responsive on part throttle and pulls noticeably more 'cleanly' under WOT. Difficult to discern actual performance benfit but the general 'feel' described above was noticeable both to me and to my passenger.

V-power or V-max?
The V-max as is germany is 100ron. The V-power as in holland is more expensive 95ron, in the pump next to normal 95ron.
Strange but true, you don't want that stuff.

so it's v-power in germany and v-max in holland... are you sure? I thought it was the other way round, don't use shell stations in holland because of it..
As long as we get the good stuff that's all that counts

Am I the only person who sees this as shell using this v power bollocks to hike up the price to bp ultimate levels? optimax, although dearer than sul, has never been that much dearer, once this v power has been installed in all forecourts, what's to stop them putting the price up a lot!

Like I said in the previous thread about V-wotsit, it would be stupid of Shell to hike the price as there are plenty of alternative sul's about which are perfectly suitable for the vast majority of performance cars in the UK which do not need the extra octane. If the price goes up, I'll start using more Tesco's!

i was told by my local shell station that as of august the 23rd the optimax is being withdrawn and replced with shell v maz, and it will be 100 ron straight from the pump and cost about 6p a litre more

There's a few shell stations where I live (south coast).. One has 'normal' price optimax and one has 'higher' price optimax (usually the same price)... Have filled up at both over the last week and whatever RON the new stuff is it p**sses all over the old optimax

well,if it aint over 99 why buy it, as tescos has been doing this for yonks so no big deal from shell then, ol dnews isnt it, 99 ron !??!?!
i thought optimax was 100 ron anyway, or am i misled ????

Think I took at tank of the new stuff onboard filling up at my local Shell station a couple of days ago. Car is pulling stronger and the difference over 5.5k is noticeable. It feels a bit like when I put booster in with a tank of the *normal* Optimax (98.6RON).

remember not all just about the RON rating... the power the fuel delivers is down to many other factors.
Higher RON means it can detonate later safer, hence more air / fuel and more power... but calorific value etc all has a bearing. I am pretty sure the formula of the new fuel is improved beyond just simply having a higher RON.
Else who exactly are they going to market this stuff at - that tiny percentage who own jap performance cars and are willing to get them remapped (yet again ).

cw42 its definately not bollocks, and in Swindon was 99.9 two days ago.
Its defo got a better "burn" to it.
Harvey has a good point there, Shell can't announce untill all stations are primed as if they did and someone checked it and the station concerned hadn't been switched they could take it to Trading Standards, so untill all is ready it will remain "Optimax".
cheers
