Default Car Tax - How much should we be paying?

Just taxed both my car and the girlfriend's car this month. The Impreza was £175 and the Renault 19 was £110.

How is it they work this out? I know it's something to do with emissions - but just want to check that £175 is the correct amount for my Impreza (import classic STi)

Ask the liberal democrates this question and they'll tell you £1500.

its been a long time since i owned something smaller than a 2ltr but car tax for engines less than a 1.6 (i think, it could be 1.4) are cheaper.

The emmsions/co levels etc is quite a new thing 4/5 years maybe.

Looking at the state of the roads down here, you would be forgiven for thinking that we don't pay road tax. Roads are in a **** poor state they cant afford to resurface the roads/fill in pot holes, yet they seem to have millions to spend on speed humps and congestion creating road systems.

If they spent half what they screw out of the motorist every year on the roads, they would be able to pave them with gold
