99ron is fine, as tescos in the north east do not sell the high spec stuff

I wonder what the exact RON is?

The old stuff was something like 98.6, and got rounded down (so i was told), so this new still could be almost 100 RON still, but rounded down to 99 RON if it is 99.6 for example.

I am not too fussed, as i am very close to both Tesco and Shell garages.

Shell garage in Swindon isn't stickered up yet, the bloke at the till seemed a bit clueless and reckoned it'd be "sometime next week". So not really sure what I just filled up with, though Bob R reckons it isn't the old Optimax.

Dont think I'll be rushing out for a re-map then. I'll just go with the added safety margin

Got some today from Shell in Leek. Same price as Optimax and the leaflets on the counter say it is indeed 99ron.

Haven't noticed any real difference as I only have a UK WRX PPP. Placebo effect was good though!

A huge disapointment, It will be a straight price thing now for me between shell and tescos, but i imagine tescos will get most of my money!, If only shell had pushed the boat out just a little more............................

Tesco must be wetting themselves. This will allow them to increase their price relative to their own 95RON fuel even further.

TV advert for it at half time during the footy (sky), developed with ferrari , although normal optimax tonight at the shell garage when I filled up, was 5p cheaper than on Sunday @98.9p/litre so didn't mind

I had a pleasant surprise last night (Tuesday) when I visited my local Shell garage in Taplow, Bucks. Optimax had dropped from £1.049 per litre to £1.009 which was nice. Asked the same chap again if he knew anything about V-Power and he wouldn't say.

Now, this is where the imagination can run wild. With almost an empty tank I filled up to the top. Normally when I refill the car just wants to go go go... but last night and today it felt a bit odd (read: lacking) with grunt... but possibly smoother with the delivery (if that makes sense).

I hope that Shell is just getting rid of some lower-grade Optimax because if I'm now using V-Power then thank God for the lower price. My standard UK Turbo isn't expecting anything new... but the old grunt/fun factor would be nice to keep.

Jonts.

Hi Bob

My cars in for a bit of work at RCMS in the next couple of weeks......

I guess they'll have to fill the car up before mapping, I'm just wondering what will go into the tank ??

Well it's probably overkill for my Golf 2.3 V5, but it was cheaper than Tesco's 99 RON so I'm not complaining. I get MPG on Optimax than normal 'super' anyway so it works out ok for me.

There was a big event at Snett yesterday, they had Tiff there and Masa was giving demo laps. V-Power goodie bags were being given out and lots of ferraris everywhere.

According to petrolprices.com there is a petrol price war at the moment due to the supermarkets lowering their prices - maybe Shell will follow their lead !!
