Wondering if anyone could tell me best place for brake discs rear ones that is for a wrx bugeye, oh and also what size are they, also anyone reckomend any brake pads as they all need changing, i have a few diffrent pads in but i still think the brakes on the car are crap, wondering if braided hoses would make any diffrence, any ideas would be great apart from saying buy some brembo or ap brakes.

Replaced the front disks on my bugeye 0 WRX with grooved Tarox disks and tarox pads. However Tarox didn't have rear replacement disks at the time - although I replaced the pads on the rear aswell. This made a MASSIVE difference to the braking over the standard kit, which I 100% agree with you are CRAP.

Doing this also solved the problem of the Subaru pads knocking against the disk on the front aswell - something Scooby Dealer Midlands said was a known feature and to solve I needed the 330mm prodrive upgrade (a £2K) for.

The Tarox stuff above cost about £300. (though I have my front disks for sale:-)

As above, Alyn at ASP is always spot on with brakes. For standard discs www.sapmotorparts.com are often cheapest. I'd recommend Ferodo pads. DS2500 if you drive hard regularly or occasionally track, DS2000 (DSPF) for general road use. Braided lines will improve pedal feel and prevent fade in extreme situations.

Got to agree the WRX bugeye brakes are really crap and frankly quite scary for such a quick car, the wife's 307 tdi is better.

I am getting the fronts replaced with a Tarox track day kit (discs & pads), similar to "bearded dragon". £400 fitted by local to Norwich specialist. They rate them as excellent brakes, even from cold.

You'll probably find that the 307 brake appear better as they are over-servo'd on a very light car. Given the weight and performance of the Impreza, the Subaru 4-pots are up to the job, just not on the OE pads, and they do benefit from braided lines and DOT5.1 fluid. The servo assistance on Scoob is reduced compared to more ordinary cars to improve driver feel and feedback. Hot-hatch on/off over-servo'd brakes are OK for town driving, but on a good a/b road, or a decent track they'd give little confidence, especially when they spin you off into a barrier. IMHO !

I used to have a 307 and your spot on with that assesment.

I also agree standard pads are crap on WRX's - had mine smoking a couple of times with some hard back road driving.

Do you think DS2500 would be a good 1st upgrade with the std disks ??

Then I would do the hoses and disks at the next pad change - but which are the best disks to go for ??

DS2500's with standard disks will be very good, but I'd put the hoses on (only £45 or so) and uprate the fluid whilst you're at it. Drive it as that for a while and then decide whether you need to start uprating the disks. If you do, don't get drilled. Grooved and/or dimpled are fine, but Scoobs have a habit of generating fractures in drilled disks.

As mentioned above, Alyn at AS Performance will do you a decent deal on pads, grooved discs and SS brakelines with SS fittings.

Also stocks Motul brake fluid

Sorted me out with this lot previously as well as Pagids and lines on my blobeye.
