At your age, your better off with a classic sport to start of with. Itll much chaper on insurance and you can play about, mods etc.

TBH, I wouldn't bother with a Sport. The whole point to Scoobs is the turbo for the performance. Throwing money at a Sport in the hope of getting anything like the same driving buzz is futile IMHO. Enjoy the hot-hatch's until you can justify the expense of running a real Scoob. There's nothing wrong with cars like the Clio 182, Cupra's, CTR's etc. Hell, I have a buyer coming to look at my car on Thursday night and if he buys I will probably be getting a VAG group turbo diesel. Remap'd with a decent zorst they can get over 300lbft, which makes for some mighty b-road driving and overtaking.

(Troll)

probably not what you want to read but hopefully more helpful than above I decided to wait till my insurance had drop now at 22 I have a 06 WRX and am spending a sensible amount on insurance , from what I have been told the fact it’s a Scooby of any type means you pay a load in insurance, would that money be better saved till you can get a wrx or sti , however many people told me the same thing when I was looking at a wrx and I took no notice of them

enjoy Scooby ownership I have / am

So, I'm a stupid unhelpful troll for recommending he wait until he can afford to own/run a turbo'd Scooby and suggested some perfectly reasonable alternatives, and then you go on to say that's exactly what you did

Can vouch for that , great fun & really easy to drive.

I agree, you'll probably have more fun in a hot hatch, and then save the money up fora turbo'd impreza at a later date.

Seems like there are some benefits of getting old.

ive driven both and personally i prefer the turbo (obviously!!) but your 19 and probably want the scoob for the look as well as performance. i see where corradoboy is coming from, but if your desperate to getting on the subaru ladder, get a classic sport. the bugeyes are ugly things anyway imho, but a sport one would look worse!!!

get a classic, cheaper to buy, better looking car, and do subtle mods until you turn 21, then lots of companies will insure you. i got insured on a wrx import at 21 only 3 months after passing my test, so shop around for a good quote!!!

but...... if your after performance... get a hot hatch, 130bhp from a n/a engine isnt the best, but the handling is good... especially the awd...

good luck matey...

Corradoboy is talking real sense. The Sport is dog slow, but that may or may not bother you. If it does then you need to know that even warm hatches will hand your **** to you on a plate - saxo Vtr's etc

admittedly its true, my old sport struggled against many "warm" hatches, but now the turbo eats them for breakfast... as i said if its the look your after though, a sport still looks the part against, the "norm" of the corsa/saxo/punto crew down your local maccy d's...

and at 19 its all about impressing the bitches isnt it. we all love a "car *****"... until you grow past that stage...

cheers guys im going tomor to look at a sport special eddition which comes with a wrx spec interior bumpers spoiler etc but not the bonnet or the engine but that does not worry me to much as i dont want to make it look like a turbo as its not. speed is not too big of an issue for me i prefer driving on the b roads and round the lanes by my house as i live near the countyr side nothing like going side ways round a corner at 70 so far in my mum rover metro i dint make it and i kind of ended up in a field on its roof. also that fact that i am a big guy means i dont get the comfort from a clio 182 as im to squashed. i think im going to do some suttle mods to it like new wheels get a nice front lip (for the bitches!!!) and maybe some engine performance mods as well but not to much as im being raped on insurance as it is 2 years no claims 2 years driving andit cost £1400

if i were you i would read as much information as you can get off here

you see i never been in a scooby and i didnt test drive one before buying

so i just went out and bought an 2006 coz i liked the look of it, and its been falling to pieces since day one.

Now that ive been on here - theres a whole world out there like JDMS, and 2005 scoobies that have already been suped up. The 22B looks the dogs bllkss too.

So do yourself a favour - Take ur time, ask these guys questions and get a car that your happy with

(im happy with the 2006 looks - just not the standard performance and fact it keeps making metallics clanging noises every time i slow down)

I would've thought that modding a car, would make your insurance way too much. I would stick to the hatches and save for the wrx.

Lancia Delta HF Turbo?

That an option? You still get the rally lOOk/feel.

u c - im guessing you want the scooby burble and roar (the 2006 is a very quiet car and does not have the usual scooby noise) - my m8 who used to have a wrx was shocked when he went in the 2006 model and his first words were "hey wheres the scooby noise gone!"

you got it spot on i love the noise the scooby makea specialy with a 3.5inch race exhaust there is a couple of chavs in the area with these huge cans on the back that make the car sound terrible.

the one im goin to look at it a 2000 so it has the burble

i have the moeny to be honest to buy a wrx now and to afford the insurance this year but next year i think i would struggle and also the extra running cost as i dont earn a great amount of money being an apprentice

as i said mate, get a sport. dont sell yourself short and buy a turbo if you cant afford it. they really arent that bad, but it was my first car and i had never driven anything else in anger lol.

my insurance for a 98" white sport was £1510 tp f&t, that being for a 21 year old, no driving experience, no ncb (obviously) total novice... so shop around for a decent quote... your age being the major bummer here...

spend a day on the phone/internet/magazines...

good luck kidd and when you buy share piccies...

I have a sport special as an interim solution until my insurance calms down and I like it. Sure - not as fast accelerating, but handles fine, 4wd is fun, but don't be expecting power oversteer - unless the car is in first on wet greasy ground! It'll keep up with older warm hatches, but without making you look like a mac'Ds wannabe. Can't vouch for the burble as mine's standard, but sounds nice anyway. Would point out you do get appalling economy and higher than your ave. Saxo service costs too, but such is the price to pay for scoobies. Oh and it's quoted at 9.something 0-60 - but you have to change to third, so this isn't really representative. I find mine a b-road blast. Just get good tyres and enjoy.
