Default Impreza "Toy"

I have been away from the Subaru fold for a couple of years now, (my wife has a 2.5xt Forester) and am hankering for the b road 4wd blast again, my question is what's the best "bang for you buck" as a second car. I don't want to spend loads maybe £10k to £12k, some P1's are coming down to that now or maybe even the STI MY03.
Never had a classic so maybe that would be the way to go.

What price would I be looking at for a good one? Are the classic engines reliable?

approx that sort of money for a great condition low millage one (10-12k), as long as they have good history and been well looked after there very reliable.

What would you say is "low mileage"?

Mine is a 1999 and has kust turned 50000 miles. that is around 8000 miles a year and i would class that as low mileage... Should be averaging around 10k a year with a full extensive service history.. IMHO

beautiful car that on ebay. I have the 1998 version 5 of that one. Best Impreza ever. However the engines are NOT 300BHP as stated in the ebay auction. Standard power is 276BHP.

I'm in a similar position to you, although mine won't be a second car.

For a second car I'd get a sti5typeR for the money you have. As a main car it'd be a P1.

I was only willing to spend up to 6k for my next impreza. luckily (for me) I found a fantastic my00 standardish uk turbo for £1.5k, albeit with a knackered engine. When everything is right I should have a lovely car for £4.5. It'll be a nice facelift Impreza, and whilst not as fast as sti's etc in a straight line, should provide ample return on bang for buck

Been looking around found this P1 which looks alright has full service history but done 64k. Whats the differance between the P1 and a STI V6? I thought they where the same but Prodrive added a few bits on and they kept there value a bit better. Also on the P1's some have had engine rebuilds on or around the 30k miles. Was this a problem with the P1 engine?

Wheelshop, Looks a hell of a car for the money, who was the rally specialist who built the engine and mapped it? Why are you selling it after doing all that work to it? Who do you use for insurance?

Bill Greer,(Greersport) did the engine and got guy to fly up from down south to map(he did 6 that day) I know his name but cant remember and dont have details to hand "good enough for Bill was good enough for me".
Unfortunate for me something has to go as my dream porsche became available and too many toys not enough space/money is on a loop tape from "the better half". (2x Porsches,Toyota WRC car,Formula 27 car, couple of Ducati's) she might have a point?
I also have a "block policy" see above, with massive premiums. so my insurance broker calls me from his "Lambo" just to say thanks when a new toy gets registered with him. HMMMMM?
