The Owners Manual in the glovebox should give you a little clue!

And don't forget to fill the filter prior to fitting or the engine WILL go pop.

Oh, nooooooooooooo, please don't start!!

It IS very important, however, to remove the seats, bootlid and carpets before you turn the engine over or disaster will happen and you will be ringing the wonderful,great,honourable,superb,I-want-their-babies API Engines!!

Please do a search for the **** Oil Change and follow the instructions to the letter!! This is not just an engine, this is a super-dooper-nuclear cooled boxer power producing device!!

And it needs **** treatment!!

To answer your questions :
O/E Subaru filter from your dealer.
Big choice of oils at varying prices. If it was my car with an engine showing no undue sign of wear, for Winter I would opt for 10W-40 Motul fully synthetic. On a newer car 5W-40 Motul.
There are lots of other oils about that are quite capable, especially if you are not driving on track etc. Some of the semi synthetics are considerably cheaper.

Fuchs Titan Supersyn SL 5W40 from Euro Car Parts at £86 for 25 litres. Enough for 5 full changes plus some spare for top-ups and works out at about £16 a time. Superb oil to boot. Do prefil (prime) the filter, no matter what Pete says, and always use a genuine Subaru filter and new compression washer.

I ALWAYS pre-fill my filter - unlike Subaru Main Dealers .... what I do say, however, is that I do not think there is a need to soak it overnight - unlike some ***** on here!

At the price, £5, I would always use a Subaru Filter ..... and, get this, I always use a new washer TOO!!

What I think is taking the ****,however, is disconnecting the Crank Angle Sensor and cranking engine before starting .... that was, that is, and that will remain the ****tiest advice ever to come out of ScoobyNet!!

I agree Pete, the engine is under more load on the starter motor than when ticking over nicely, all balanced at idle. The oil pump has more tendency to cavitate at start-up too, reducing oil flow.

Oh no, not this again

Pete, I noticed you were very fast to jump in when this topic started old boy, don't go off on one again ffs

I still reckon that scoobynet should have a poll on this " sticky " subject.

If any mods are about, is this possible ? Oil/Brand/Car/Year/Engine/Modified motors, etc.

I think it would be a very good idea tbh, as there never seems to be a right or wrong answer, so people could make there minds up as per the percentage results.

Plus, it would keep Pete quiet, for that reason alone its perfect

Just a thought,

R7

ps, 94Impreza, after much debate and research, I use Silkolene Pro-S 10/50. Its expensive, but you get what you pay for, don't you Pete ? lol
