Does anyone know the benefit of a Samco Silicone Inlet Pipe over a plastic STI 3 Inlet pipe as they seem to be about £200 and wondering if worth it.
Will be going on a Front Entry TD05.

The only benefit I can think of is if the internal diameter is bigger thus the volume of air drawn through can be a bit better. Also the bends in the Samco hose are smoother.

Getting the old one out without lifting the manifold is APITA job. Last one I did, I smashed the old item to remove it easily.
Advantages? Well the O/E is restricted in a couple of places and not the straightest path
The job is a doddle with the I/M off and even easier with engine out during rebuild. Consider I/M spacers at the same time (10mm) from RCMS or Carl Davey. Made from TUFNOL not aluminium. Some of us have noticed that aluminium is a conductor
so as the purpose is to slow down or reduce the transfer of heat into the I/M aluminium would not be the most sensible choice.
As for benefit; marginal I would think, especially on low-medium power engines. There will be a benefit with a bigger turbo, above a TD05-06 20 G I would guess but amount of benefit???????????
I have a red Samco one of these for sale. Done 4K miles I think and as new. Bought for an 02 car but can be adapted to fit anything.
Photo available. £100 plus postage which is less than half the new price.
