Default No spoiler then?

I guess Chris Atkinson's reaction at being told that he's lost his spoiler on the rally japan proves theres no real reason for a spoiler then?

There is a need and they do provide downforce, but if you want the rear to be loose then you dont need one (esp on gravel ) but they only start coming into their own at above 70mph.

I think he did actually say the car felt strange towards the end of the stage.
They are also useful when the car is jumping with all four wheels off the deck as it keeps the car fairly flat as it travels through the air.
I can remember Petter doing a large jump minus rear wing and he had a really heavy front end landing resulting in rad damage.
On road going cars its debatable whilst driven by joe average.

Yeah, he did. He probably didn't realise the wing was missing cos he was looking at the road in front, not out of the rear view mirror!

Good recovery out of the trees too

In the Rally Finland, the Impreza's nosedived off every jump. That was with the rear wing attached.
They will/do provide downforce at high speed, but it won't make a nose heavy car jump flat.

Yeah I saw that yesterday too

Subaru are not doing well in the rally.........
