STI 8 FIBREGLASS SPOILER
i bought one of these a few months ago but ended up selling it because every body shop i took it to to get an estimate told me i shouldnt spoil my beautifull car by putting cheap crap on it.
i really want one for my car, has anyone else put one on and had any probs over time, im not to keen on spending £900 + on a genuine one!
cheers

I bought a cheap one (£200 off ebay) for my old uk scoob. When I fitted it there was an inch odd gap between the bottom and the boot in the centre which gradually got closer as you got nearer the edges.
Luckily my father-in-law owns a fibreglass factory. To get it to fit properly we cut the bottom section of the spoiler in half and mounted it to the boot *(more flexible when cut in half), added some extra fixings so it could be bolted down flush to the boot. Then we rested the top half of the lower section ontop and bonded the two together and proceeded to fill up the inch gap all round with resin.
Lots of sanding and about 8 hours work and it was on and a nice fit.
My opinion
1. buy a decent original one which will cost more but look and fit better.
2. buy one pre-fitted to a boot so you know it fits properly and save yourself some work.
3. If you cant afford the above, keep the one you have, its better to have a standard one than a shoddy one....

£450 plus vat fitted and painted from scooby clinic and its mint.
If you go to the scoobyclinic webpage my car is the second picture advertising the STI8/9 replica spoiler.
My mates got a genuine one from subaru fitted to his WRX and neither he or I can tell the difference.

The fibreglass ones tend to be heavier, and less flexible than the OE ones which are iirc, ABS, (nowt to do with brakes!).
Their extra weight means boot slams aren't uncommon, and they can crack: I know of one, a VERY good, very well fitting copy, that cracked along the top, let water in, and had to be removed complete with boot lid to be drilled to let the water OUT before repair and refitting.
It depends what you want to spend.
Have you tried Grade A Subaru breakers at Hayfield in the High Peak for a genuine one off a broken car?

Have a look at DR Motorsport. I got my replica from there. Excellent fit and paint job. They also do genuine ones for a lot less than £900.

dont bother with the ebay copies.
i think you need stronger gas struts as well, on the odd occasion other people close my boot, i swear somethings gonna snap or bend very soon.
also, you really need the boot lid drilled in the center
have you tried the likes of Grade A or another breakers, one of the popular ones on here does OEM for £350 inc VAT.

I've been looking for one for some time now but don't want to spend the ridiculous prices Subaru dealers are asking.

Scoobyclinic ones are well respected, as are DR Motorsport. I've seen a few of the Brian Wilson ones which I believe he sells on eBay and they're quite good too. The fibreglass weave is visible under close scrutiny, but otherwise a good fit.

does anyone know what the scoobyclinic ones are made from for £450 fitted and wil that effect the boot, oh and another point sorry, if it is made from fibreglass will it crack and distort over time?
cheers guys
