![Question](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/icons/icon5.gif)
Where is this license?
Should i have it? Is it with the mapper? Is it with the garage?
Is it just already on the ECU?
Does it exist? LOL.
Have had mine TEK 3 done a couple of years now, but where is the license?
Was just wondering in case of further work like.

you can get anyone to map it mate basically you have already paid ecutec for the programming software so all you need to pay for is mapping time the licence is a program in the ecu hope this helps

you will find that if you are taking the car to a different mapper most will charge in the region of £350+ as they will start again and completely re-do the map. if it was their previous work prices go around £200

pippyrips is correct, what I'm not sure though on is whether this is because only they have access to the existing map on the ecu, or because they keep a soft copy of your map and therefore are able to load it up and tweak it rather than start again.
There was a long thread a while ago regarding why do you not get given a copy of your map when you have it done, seeing as you've paid for the service, and then you could go to anyone to have it tweaked.
General concencus was that the map was the intellectual property of the mapper and therefore not transferrable.
Having said that though some mappers will share their maps with each other so it may still be possible depending on who you have used/will be using..
Any mappers out there input into this debate would be much appreciated !

Yup, no certificate.
The ECU stores the Licence.
The map on the ECU is not accessable by anyone, even the person who mapped it.
The mapper willl however save a copy of his changes so that can be tweaked at a later date, without having to go through the whole process again.
There is no unlock code..
The only people that can "fully" access the contents of the ECU are ECUTEK themselves.
The actual "map" stays private / intelectual property of the mapper due simply to the fact that a lot of development goes into the changes made in it and it's not something you would want to just give away!

Ta for the info ppl ![Smile](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
The main thing that is stopping me 'upgrading' as it were, good or bad, is my lovely WRX gearbox. Would be my kinda luck to spend on the engine and have the torque wipe me out.
Now if only i had a spare wedge of cash lying about, Type-25, hmmmm, LOL.
