Default MOT in an hour and in a panic!

Hi guys, am getting conflicting info on MOT and cats/emmissions for a 1993 wrx import - is it likely to fail or is it right that if it's an import they don't test for it?

Can anyone help? I'm in a tizz!

I believe pre 95 imports are not tested

They have to test the emissions.
93 wrxs are not on the database so they give it a standard test (3% CO i think).
Mine has no cat and easily passed the emissions test.

all cars are tested, however pre 1995 imports I believe only need to pass the basic emissions test (bet test)

Wink

Mine passed yesterday, it's 93 WRX and I assume they found it on the database because he didn't say they couldn't find it.

The limits used were:

Fast idle:
CO 0.2 %vol
HC (Hydrocarbons) 200 ppm (parts per million)
Lambda 0.93 - 1.03

Idle:
CO 0.3 %vol

My car was struggling to get to the limits until we found a hole in the top of the pipe going into the backbox, the guy held a rag over it and the measurements almost immediatley dropped within limits.

I thought it was weird a) to have a hole on the top of a horizontal pipe when the moisture should collect at the bottom and b) that a hole in front of the rear box could affect the readings so much.

Still, I was very happy it passed - hope yours does too.

Thats the BET (basic emissions test) limits if it fails that then they do a full CAT test.
I think we are just saying don't worry

I think it might fail anyway, it's overfueling like a bugger - but I just didn't know if they tested and if so at what year - the computerised mot thingummy threw me off

Thanks guys. God I hate loathe and detest mot day *grin*

It failed, passed on emmissions *falls over* and failed on nearside reg plate bulb out (I know I know but it was the only thing I forgot to check first!)

and of all things - it not having a fog light - I didn't think they'd fail it for not having a fog light seeing as there has NEVER been a fog light, but no - apparently import or not if it's on a UK road it's gotta have one.

Now have switch, red bulb thingummy, wire - and am going to convert the reverse light to a foglight.

Sigh. Never mind eh, coulda been worse

Thanks guys for the fast replies earlier, much appreciated

Or,you could get some uk rear clusters and wire up the standard fog lite to your new switch.

either way.good luck with it.....
