i seen a N reg white WRX Impreza today that had grey seats with a round badge saying 1995 world rally championship embroided on the seats and grey door panels, it had the same badge on the corner of the boot with a V limited badge underneath it saying 144/1000, it didn't have a red top engine, no sti badges, no water spray and front fog lights, was this a limited edition or just a standard WRX with a few badges?

same looking seats yes, colour and style but a different badge in the centre of the seat

Its a wrc v-ltd. The earlier ones were made before the 96 and 97 victorys so they only had the 95 year in the middle. Mine was a MY98 so had all three embroided in

what trick bits do they come with then cos this looked like it didn't have any of the toys my old MY95 sti ra had, just looked like a standard WRX with a different interior

They arn't STI's so engine wise there just WRX's. They have no DCCD, water spray, red manifold etc. The only thing they have extra is cosmetic stuff. Mine had a roof vent, the different interior, numbered plaque and numbered floor mats and a badge on the boot. Thats pretty much all the differences.
They made a 1000 of these models each year from 95 to 98. They arn't the rarest of scoobies in japan but pretty scarce over here.
