Talking Scooby owners who don't know their cars?

I'm just browsing through Autotrader looking at Scoobs for sale, and Ive seen the following cars for sale:

1. WRX STi 2.5 Spec D - It's a wr blue 05 JDM! (2.0)

2. WRX in silver with PPP, and 348 LBS of torque!

3. WRX STi in silver which is not an STi!

4. Various STi PPP's with 306, 350, and other bhp figures!

Plus loads of really annoying ads that miss out the bleeding obvious, like mileage, has the car got FSH, how many previous owners, and the CONDITION of the car! Grrrr!

I did loads of research into models before I bought mine and I noticed loads of wrongly advertised. I wonder if many people have bought cars thinking they've got something that it's not.

Alot of dealer advertise the early WRX as either STi or 280BHP. which in nearly all cases is incorrect.

I don't know how many genuine STi 1 there are in the UK. But I bet 1 in 5 think they have an STi when infact it's just a 240BHP WRX.

When i bought my 95'wrx the guy had advertised it as an sti so i drove 90 miles to find it was a wrx, when i got there it had cheap gold sti stickers on the boot and wings and sti just below the speeo dial hence why he thought it was an sti...it was still a nice clean 260ps wrx and up for 4k so id thought id try my luck and offered £2700 saying that because its not an sti thats all its worth he thought about it for about for a minute and said £2800....done deal....bargain...

I took a one-way flight to lOOk at an STi, which i thought was a Type UK, it turned out the be an EU model. Checked the insurance wasn't a problem, checked it still had the warranty, negotiated a lower price and drove it home. It was a minter, so it didn't bother me.
