Could the people with this fuel pump answer this for me please...
is the pump louder than the OEM pump?.
For example, while sitting in the car with windows up at idle can you hear it whine/buzz behind you?
Also, is this the pump that everybody usually upgrades to?

Thanks

hi,
I had the walbro fuel pump fitted a couple of years when I upgraded the turbo to a VF23 in a WRX wagon and can't say I hear it making any noise. I hear it when I turn on the ignition and wait for it to stop before turning the engine.
Apart from that, no additional noise.

I can't hear mine at all, not even when it primes.
Mine was fitted by a fellow scooby owner who lives near me. It took about an hour IIRC and seemed fairly straightforward (for someone who knows what they're doing, unlike me who's completely clueless when it comes to car mechanics

I also can't hear mine when the engine is running, and when the pump primes at start up it's not much different from the one it replaced (i don't know if it was oem).

It varies, car to car and pump to pump. Generally they are noisier. One I fitted recently has started to make a high pitch noise, It is intermittent, there on some journies and not others. Audible sat in traffic and also audible from outside the car. I expected it to fail but it has been like this for a month and the fuel pressure is OK, even when it is making the noise.

funnily enough I was only thinking today that it's shame modern fuel pumps are so quiet. When EFI cars started to become the norm in late 80's / early 90's a lot of them had really noisy pumps, and I for one actually quite like it when you can hear the pump whine from outside the car whilst the engine is running.

It'd definately noiser on my classic, but only really noticable when the car is at idle if the windows are down or you're standing outside the car. Certainly not intrusive or unpleasant.
