Question Protective paint film - worth it?

Getting my new car end of the month and was considering using a company called paintshield who fit a plastic film to the frontal areas of the car to protect it from stonechips and abrasions.

Anyone had this done, either by these guys or someone else? Is it any good and worth having? The cost for doing the front bumper bonnet edge and wing mirrors is £470 incVAT or £794 to have additional pieces designed and fitted for the lower front doors and rear bumper sides (thinking of the crap that gets thrown up by the wheels) or would I be as well saving some dosh there and using mudflaps?

i have had defendall fitted to the front of my STi. The paint was getting chipped at high speed by insect impacts, so in my opinion i just had to put protective film on.
As for long term gains, i cant say yet but much easier to replace the film than re-paint the front of the car.

Sounds a bit expensive but labour is a big cost as it takes ages to do.

If you are in the south look up a company called armourfend. They fittied some of their film to my Caterham about 6 years ago. Since sold the car but see it now and then and the new owner still has no paint problems

Talk to these guys (they also do the car graphics if that's your bag):

Talk to Allan on above landline or his mob nr 07801 607978. Mention me by name (PM me for my real name!) & he'll do you a really good deal. Ditto anyone who posts on here.

They covered my wifes Audi TT & there is not a stone chip in sight. They will also be doing my new Scoob once I can get rid of this pesky BMW ...

Had Tom at Paintshield do my car from new last March, have done 15K since and not a mark well worth the £400 odd quid. Mention Scoobynet and he might even do you a small discount

I would say yes it is worth it,particularly if you use motorways a lot.

My 05 has had to have 2 bonnet repairs so far because of flying stones that have actualy caused it to dent...not to mention a recent complete front end re-spray because it looked as tho someone had shot it at point blank range with a 12 bore and all in >20k miles

I have armourfend on my car - fitted by Little H (on SIDC) - he is a dealer and I am sure he would do a better price than the one in the top post.

I have front bumper, bonnet, wing ends, skirts, lights, fog lights, top of bumper at the rear and wing mirrors done - will stop it getting chipped to oblivion - well worth it if you intend to keep your car.
