MORE POWER
I have had my bugeye for a year now and a little bored with the power , i cant really afford to get a sti( should of got 1 in the 1st place ) so what could i expect from a remap?and is it worth it?

Absolutely worth every penny. I had mine done and soon realised a remap isn't just about the figures (bhp and torque), it makes the car so much more fun and enjoyable. A remap will take you to virtually the same figures as an STi and probably more than PPP, you should be looking at 260bhp+ and 255lb/ft+

I fitted a panel filter and Magnex back box (plus fuel pump) and after the remap made 261bhp and 256lb/ft of torque.
It makes the car A LOT faster, with the power coming in sooner and the whole power delivery becomes more responsive. It literally transforms the car, no exaggeration, well worth the money.

Mine made 261bhp and 256lb/ft so if you wanna split hairs over 4bhp, go for it. Plus mine had more torque than a standard STi.
Plus mine's a bugeye so had a lower bhp starting point than current WRX's, (215bhp).

You should come along to the next meet in a week or so, they're held on Thursday evenings normally at the Toby pub car park at J30 or the M4 (Cardiff Gate).
There's usually 25 to 30 scoobies there and a good mix of standard and modded classics and newages. Good bunch of people as well and plenty of personal experiences that can help you to choose your modding path (and therefore how to spend your cash!).
Most people will be happy to show you round their car or take you out for a quick blast down the road so that you can get a feel for any changes or mods you're planning.

just looked at powerstation web site and it seems that to get 270 bhp its gonna cost me 1500 notes is this right,i just thought that just gettin a remap alone would get me some where near that ,

All you really need is:
- good quality performance back box. ~£250 new/~£150 2nd hand.
- good quality panel filter. ~£40 new.
- ecutek remap. ~£650 inc VAT.
Total around £950.
The Powerstation upgrade pack includes a partial decat as well, hence the higher cost. Their figure of 270bhp is conservative.

Trap2 is right enough. I chatted to him and Corradoboy (aka Dave) when I bought my 01 WRX 2 months ago and went along with their suggestions.
Got MOT friendly H & S decat centre pipe and Andy F remap - total ~ £700.
Having said that, I'd definitely recommend the Prodrive springs and Whiteline ARB/Droplinks I fitted, which cost another 600 squid (you might even want to do the suspension 1st - I did and it was a lot more fun after that even before it got to 273 bhp !

I agree about the suspension, I've got Eibach's fitted and have just bought some rear whiteline drop links from an SN'er who's selling up.
Just a whiteline ARB to go!
I know a lot of people offer good advice about doing brakes and suspension first and there is obviously logic in this approach, however....
Personally I think the standard Subaru 4 pots and discs, plus the standard shocks, etc are more than adequate for an Impreza up to 300bhp.
Mine's at 280bhp+ now and even though I'd like slightly sharper braking (perhaps a pad upgrade ) and with Eibach's already on, the car copes with this level of power without any drama and is a joy to throw to corners.

Yep, i think the brakes are fine for everything other than track use for the power we're talking about.
Think an 01 WRX with 300 bhp and no supension mods might be a bit on the wobbly side though !
What came 1st Trap ~ the Eibachs or the remap ?

I had the Eibach's and remap done at the same time. I went to Powerstation for the remap and ended up getting Eibach's and geometry done before it went on the rolling road.
I'll never forget the drive home that day, what a ride!
