You over revved it ?

How, 3rd gear, you went to 6k or something ?

yet u say motorway,5th gear im presuming, how can it be over revved ?

de-retricted ?

anyhoo, if the engine is of a healthy state, there shouldnt really be a running in period as its just an engine from another car,put decent oil in, be kind to it etc.

the limiter isn't gear related. it's just a rev limiter, you'll hit it no matter what gear you're in. normally around 7k for normal WRXs

Same sortof thing happened to me in my classic 93 import, after only 2 weeks of getting it the engine went pop, fooked crankshaft and pistons!!
New crankshaft £400 plus an engine rebuild another £1500!!
Didn't trust getting a second hand engine, now I have to keep it at 3000revs or less for the first 1000miles,to let it run in.
Good luck with yours anyway m8

140 mph isnt redline revs tho is it ?!?!?!

in all honesty mate if was a bad lump you would know about it,(gone bang by now) do a couple of oil changes to make sure its got proper fresh good oil in it put some good plugs and a filter and if not already do the timing belt and should be ok, its not all bad news with second hand lumps

If its a second hand lump it should be ok,provided it was running ok before it was removed, but you'll just have to take that chance, unlike mine which has had new crankshaft, pistons, mainbearing, conrods etc, which has to be run in gently.
If it was going to pop it most probably would have by now.

Jap cars are not mapped for beyond 112 MPH that is why they should stay limited in this country until they are mapped properly. No wonder it went bang - I assume you are using V-Power with Octane booster and not just standard unleaded.

Um,didnt really think they had to be "mapped" to run beyond 112 mph, as long as ur using high ron fuel /healthy engine the speed you do didnt matter ?!?!?!?

hmmmm............

Well, the ECU won't know how to manage the fuelling etc, so with the high temperatures under the bonnet, fuelling which is a guessing game etc, it is a real risk to run an unmapped car above 112MPH.
