resonator pipe removing the 'shields'

Hi all
A few months back I got the exhaust centre section from a JDM classic, which looks exactly like a UK centre section except that there is no cat in it. It has all the 'shields' on, i.e. which I take to be the resonator bits?
If I remove these 'shields' will I notice an increase in noise? I've heard that people who've put centre dec-cat pipes on w/o a resonator get a noticeable increase in sound.
Thanks
Nick

the shields are on the outside of the pipe just heat shields a resonator box is a form of silencer the absorbs noise by resonance if you look in side the box/resonator/silencer, you should see lot of tiny holes these are the ones that absorb the noise not the shields, so unless the shields are rattling leave them where they are, or fit one without and gain a slight noise increase
