Question Type 25 - Is £40k too steep

I had been waiting some time for the T25 to come out and always thought that it would be more powerfull than the last version but the thing that suprised me most was the basic price of £39,995.

When I read the article in EVO I must have missed the bit that said that the extras were not included in the £39,995, so I subtracted them from the £40k and thought that's not bad it was around £34k but when I realised that they were on top of the £40k I nearly had a heart attack.

I know there has been a lot of development work on the new car but £7k on top of the old price for me is a step too far, I don't know what everyone else thinks?

Very steep but in terms of performance, it blows away the old WR1 and how much were they brand new??

True, but the WR1 is an official car has a 3 year warranty and full dealership support no matter where you are in the country. I would also say the depreciation would be far less fro the WR1.

The list price for the 05 cars was (if I recall correctly) £34,995, so the increase is £5,000. If you consider that Cosworth now supplies most of the engine (the prices for upgrades are on the site) you can see where the money has gone.

I for one will be very interested to see how the new car compares to the old, but in today's car market I'm afraid everyone can expect to take a hit on residuals, official car or not.

At the end of the day whether it's worth £39,995 is down to the person with the cheque book.

Compare performance and price to a Porsche 997 Turbo and then post your thoughts....

If you have £40K No ...................... if you have £35K Yes

There again with £35K you could have a GP Tuner

IMHO

I could never bring myself to spend £40k on a scooby even if I was well and truly minted

Yes round a track it might be of similar performance to 997 turbo but given the chance I know what I'd rather own

If it's just track performance you're after, why not buy a modded classic ra for peanuts which could no doubt keep pace on track with most.

I hope that they test it on the new Top Gear series around the track and see how good it is compared to the FQ400, my thoughts are that it will be quicker. Yes i think that the price is a bit too steep but you are still getting a lot of car for the money compared to other cars out there.

First of all....are any of you guys in the market for the t25? if not why does the price concern you that much???

How many of you would take a type 25 if it was 35k?

Please list or pm your names as you all talk the walk lets see how many of you genuinely are interested in the t25.

If it was £35k yes, for me the sensible choice would be the T20 or a Spec-C RA.

Ian Litchfield offers the "Comprehensive Warranty" with all his new cars. EVO magazine have tested it in the new issue and gave it 5 Stars and rave about it.

I think some people on here are missing the point of the T25. It is not a track-car. It is one of the quickest cars on the road money can buy. It may not be as desirable as a 911 Turbo (I would agree with you there) - but then it is about £60k cheaper

It has the adjustable suspension to make into a great track car and a great road car - best of both worlds.

If anyone is REALLY interested - go and drive one and then drive another £40k car that you could be interested in and post your thoughts on here

doesn't the gp version just have the same suspension as the type 25, but with around 360bhp?

No AFAIK it has the 3 way adjustable AST race suspension rather than the T25's AST Sport-Line kit.

As a "new car" at £40k plus options, point to point nothing comes close, but it comes down to if you want new with warranty, or second-hand(extensive mods)?

Personally I go second hand, for 40K there are cars that will be as fast, if not faster "if" tuned correctly, and they would have already taken some hit on the residual. These days you can get 996 turbos near 50k, tuned to low lag 580bhp, before you starting look at older Evo's and Scoobs.

The T25 is very special, rare car, but no doubt pro thieves will be looking for you too, horrible thought, put I would be so paranoid.

Just might be that the Porsche brakes are better. Or that Litchfields thought they suited the car better ie feel, retardation

Maybe. I supose it makes a change from having AP Racing or Brembo calipers. They are a bit common, like wr blue scoobs with gold alloys.

I was talking to Curtis about it when i was down there the other day and he said they are slightly better than the AP's/Brembos. Bloody massive too

ScoobyDoo69 - The tuner GP is a track focussed beast with the AST race spec suspension, bucket seats etc. On the road the type 25 will be quicker though

gav..
