Default Newbie need Help!!Can anyone identify this??

Hi,

I am runing a small garage in Okayama Japan, mostly selling for the domestic market but exporting sometimes too when I had an inquiry from the friend and ppl who fed up by jap auciton system.

Recently I bought a 1996 Subaru WRX STI.and story is,

In all documents, it says E-GC8-EJ 20 and user manuel and service history documents says its WRX STI.
But when my Irish agent saw the cars pics,he didnt noticed that this car is STI ,he dediced that by interior look of the car.

I realy want to know if this is an STI or not or what spec exactly? I m not that experienced on Subarus so any help would be highly appreciated.

I could post the picture but just after I discovered how to put a pic here in this forum.

thanks for your advices

Yes; its a MY1995 WRX with a V4 STI spoiler. Surely it would have been quicker for you to look at the Applied Model Number?

As said WRX

Normally on a STi the inlet manifold is Red, STi Alloy Strut brace, STi oval badge below indicators, Sti sown in Seats and more. But really in all cases you should always check out VIN number there is on http://www.sidc.co.uk/faq.htm#1.4 a FAQs page and other sites on the WEB you can check the VIN.

IIRC

None of that is really relevant; there are a number of features that identify the car as C or C2-Series (the MY'96 car was similar to the MY'95 car) car. Subaru only produced the STI Type-RA durig 1995 and in 1996 the C2-Series STIs had a unique AMN. JDM cars dont have a VIN, only a sequential chassis number prefixed GC8/GF8 (models are defined by their Applied Model Numbers) and red painted inlet manifolds and STI-type rear lamps only appeared on D-Series cars.

Thats it!!

Thank you in deed guys,as long as I know, STI's have that red top engines etc but as you said, the best is the VIN check,
only confusing point is, cars official user manuel and service history book which all indicates as STI there.

By the way, this is a 1996 one ,not 1995

I stand corrected GC8 is right on the "Red Top" not being on that model and VIN is a UK thing

WRX ... GC8C48D
STi2 ... GC8C4ED

IMHO

1996 and 1995 cars are similar, as I said. Thats why they both use the C year identifier in the Applied Model Number. The AMN for tis car will be GC8C48D; a MY95/MY96 WRX.

Yep, 1995 WRX
If it were an Sti it would have a strut brace, a silver intercooler and an STi badge on the top of the radiator/fan cover.

You will also probably find that the ECU (In the passenger footwell under the kick plate) is labelled Z4.

If it were and STi, of that year. It would be an STi 2 and the ECU would be badged 6K

Early cars do not always have the Red Top engine, especially STi 1 and STi RA
STi 1 will have a very think alluminium strut brace with pinl mounting plates.
STi RA and STi 2 will have a thinner strut brace made of carbob fibre.
They will also have a 2nd water bottle for intercooler water spray.
