Default sti uk or sti ppp

guys what would you do?

would you buy wither a 54 sti or 54 sti ppp?

seen 03-04 sti for £13k and seen 03-04 sti pp for £15-£16k

which would you spend your money on?

would you use the three grand difference to mod your sti aand if so what mods would you get?

aas i am sure with the money you more than likely could get more than prodrives 305bhp out of the sti?

also what bhp does the normal sti have?

thanks

steve

think a standard uk sti is around 265bhp.

if both cars are the same except for the ppp then it's not worth paying an extra 3 grand, the package doesn't cost that new.

I would prefer the standard sti and put a full decat exhaust on it with an uprated fuel pump and have it remapped, or if you want to spend the extra money then get a jdm sti, the gl model, with twin scroll turbo, quick rack, dccd-a and equal length headers.

as ken said.

if you did get the ppp you would only end up changing the exhaust anyway.

the extra money would see zorst, pump, panel filter and remap, aswell as fitted prodrive springs with change from 2k (careful purchasing).
you would then have a well sorted beast.

The prodrive performance pack is / was 2k when purchased from the dealers.

Have a look at the for sale sections there is usually a few pop up for sale on there.

The Standard version MY03/04 & 05's are 265BHP
With PPP you should be achieving 305BHP although this wasnt always the case.

Best of luck.

if i ran a uprated panel filter uprated fuel pump, decat down pipe ( maybe centre as well) changed the back box, and remapped it (with a new ecu if this was a better idea) if anyone can add anything else which would benifit without running into silly money what power would i expect to get?

as i am guessing all that could be done with a 2kl budget (i would have 3k) possibly with 2k would i be able to get a decent spring kit (maybe prodrive) or similar

does this all sound on the right track?

or would it be best to strike a deal at a subaru dealer ship and stick with ppp

thanks

steve

without sounding like a broken record pound for pound you will be much better off getting a JDM STI - you just more in every way

I'm sure the PPP exhaust system is fine up to 350ish bhp....... It's the intercooler that needs changing to achieve such results!

Loads of peeps on here have 330/330 remapped 03-05 sti's with PPP change the intercooler and near 350/350 can be had!

As for a JDM model they are fine, but do cost more to buy , cost more to insure and you loose the scooby sound!

All just MHO

Prodrive do the modifications of the standard Subaru. Subaru try and appeal to the masses and so cars must be driveable and easy(ish) to live with. The previous owner of my car took it to TSL motorsport and got the TSL 333 pack (330 bhp) consisting of exhaust, air filter, fuel pump and re-map. Go down the Prodrive route and your warranty will be fine (depending on age of car.) If youy are not bothered, modify elsewhere.

Second hand, a PPP'd STI should not sell for much more than a standard STI - shop around.

Finally, the JDM does have advantages such as performance however does have disadvantages such as insurance, history etc - each to their own.

There will be cases where this is true however it is my understanding that japanese (or any kind of) imports generally cost more to insure that UK cars. As a point of interest, I pay less for my modded STI8 than my old classic - must be associated with the chavs that now drive classics!!!!!!!!!!!!

i'm with merv - my 04 JDM STI cost less than the equivilant average uk sti while mine was mint and only had 5000 miles on the clock; and was/is considerabley less to insure than my old uk300. (Thanks a-plan)

However you do have a point about the 'scooby' burble

If the warranty isn`t an issue then buy the standard STI and get a reputable company to tune it. If you value whats left on the warranty then go for the STI PPP but I wouldnt pay £2k over the standard STI asking price!

Not in my opinion, however as mentioned above, the warranty could be a strong influence on your decision.
