Default Towing with a turbo.

Anyone towed with their Impreza Turbo? If so what sort of mileage have you returned after towing what loads. Thinking of a caravan!

Amazingly the mpg figure goes UP when I tow a 800kg braked trailer!!

Add a TopBox and the mpg goes up again .... don't ask me why - I don't know!

They are FANTASTIC towcars!!

Hmmm I donno, there might be some truth in that.

With a caravan you’re probably going to be going slower anyway, and accelerating and braking less harshly. Theses things got to be good for mpg surely.

Maybe a caravan to slow you down does help mpg…

My mate tows a trailor with his 03 STI and has done for over 2 years now.

He still drives briskly and notices very little change in the mpg if any. The only slight issue is that he gets a bit of clutch judder on an uphill start.

You'd hardly know it was on the back tbh, and doesn't effect the drive at all.

I've towed for thousands of miles with a MY03 wagon and race car on a braked trailer. No probs whatsoever, although you do need to load the trailer carefully.

I never found a lot of difference in fuel consumption- in theory, its only accelerating thats using more fuel, and maybe the momentum / extra weight from the trailer helps save a little when cruising?

We used a Legacy turbo for years to tow a pony trailer and occupants ! Ideal car for it.

I used my 03 WRX to tow my little Eriba caravan to Cornwall and it was great. The only trouble I found was that 60mph is just off boost in 5th gear, so for brisker overtaking, you'll need to drop into 4th or sometimes even 3rd. Once you do that it pulls like a train.

I unintentionally made some plum in a MINI Cooper look very silly when he tried to overtake me on a piece of single carriageway which opened into a dual when he thought I was the hold up. His two mates in the car found it funny as **** that he got dusted by a caravan..lol

Thumbs up

Towed a Sprite 4.5m caravan for years with my classic now, and when it goes out, the van is quite heavy!

If I tow it with a Diesel Xantia 2.0HDi, the consumption goes from 45mpg to around 28mpg.

With the Scoob, it goes from 28mpg to around 25mpg.
Go figure.

Forgot to say, fuel consumption was unchanged towing my caravan. I seem to get 220 - 280miles per tank if I tow, don't tow, take it easy or drive the wheels off..!
