wrx 2l turbo or 2l turbo???
my old wrx engine blew a month or so ago and i bought a second hand wrx lump( so i thought) . the old 1 was a 95 import and the second lump came from a 94 import. the second lump is much much slower on pick up and on top speed for some reason?? do you think he could of sold me a 2l turbo engine instead of a wrx??? is there a difference between a wrx and a 2l turbo??? if so how do can you tell??? is there any reason why theres so much pick up diffrence between my old and new engine, if the new 1 is a wrx!!! do you have to get a engine remapped and the ecu reseted after puting it in to get the performance out of it???. help would be appreciated

WTF ? The physical differences are negligable. 1994my wasnt the year that anything changed, but that wouldnt make a difference either; the difference was only in the ECU, the Z4 was massivley superior the the model that it replaced. If you were sold a fit 2000 Turbo; A/B-Series WRX engine, or a C-Series WRX engine (what you had originally), it should produce about 260PS, as it did originally. You are still using the original 1995 Z4 ECU arent you?

You have described a clutch fault though. You press the accelerator, it makes a lot of noise, the tacho needles races up but you dont go anywhere.

A clutch doesnt mechanically lock; drive is transmitted through pressure. Theres a disc on the end of the engine and a disc on the gearbox and theyre pressed together. When you operate the clutch you release the pressure on the gearbox disc removing drive. If they arent pressing together with sufficient force then they will slip rather than transfer drive.
