Default Newbie on Forester STI - Any longterm owners or expereience..

Hi, I am new to the forum and please dont flame me for posting on this subject (I have searched and seen a few forester v's xxxxxx posts)
But...

how do they live up to day to day ownership..servicing costs? Real world MPG? they also look a little tight in the back from pictures Ive seen.

I will be going to test drive / view at Litchfields at some point but im just after a few views initially.

Currently trying to sell my TVR Cerbera and then scrap the dog wagon (Mondeo '94).
I have hankered for an RS4 for a long time, but then the STI came along. I need somet to satisfy both needs and although they are different beasts they will both do that.
In past ive also had a GTIR and Evo VII RS Sprint so i am generally clued up about imports / insurance and maintaining reasonably quick motors.

Any opinons appreciated....

Cheers, fueling covered in a sense - only 1 person with a true JDM STI, a few turbo models are probably tweaked. Seems to average about 25mpg - which seems quite high to me - BONUS!
About same as my mondeo.... and over twice as much as the TVR!!!

I'd say day-to-day ownership is the same as any Subaru. The fuel depends on leadfootedness, but I've had 30 mpg out of mine. And less of course.

Best considered as a short estate, so slightly less load space than some. The dog will need a five-point harness though...

Ive never owned a scooby, but i get the point. and I suppose that is pleasing to here really as there are loads of people who own imprezas!

Dogs already know to get down and dig there claws in! that Mondeo does some pitching and rolling.

Insurance will be interesting I think and convincing the other half (X5 fan) but the more I look on litchfields the more I like.

I like something a little out of the ordinary and it certainly fits the bill!

Insurance is quite reasonable, A-Plan are happy with mods (and it will be modded...). I'm paying 655 including protected no-claims, car declared as 330 bhp and with AST coilovers.

You need Mog's black one up at Litchfields...

Mog, your car (ex-car?) looks superb.

Would love one of these but a little unsure of commiting to a limited insurance market. Also not sure how easy they would be to move on.

I'm on my second one, the first was sold on via Litchfields when the second one arrived. I'd say that the rarity ensures that within that niche market the prices remain high.

Ive got to get shut of the TVR first - no easy task let me tell you!

I would consider any colour but prefer white / blue or black.

I have seen an 04 one private for 19k as well...is this pre face lift - what were the actual differences?

One has black leather as well - a very nice touch, but those seats that Mog had done in two tone are very very special - they look the nads.

My "old" Blue pre face lift had the grey/black leather seats, my current Black FSTi has all black leather.

The 04 FSTi will be pre face lift the face lift cars have over the 04's
New front end

Larger wing mirrors with inbuilt indicators
Smaller tailgate spoiler
New style front and rear lights
Revised suspension which is a great improvment

Some one else will add to this list no doubt

Also insurance to take into all the mods and 340bhp, 335lbs was £560 fully comp for a 40 year old.

Vicmel,

There is a user Fulham71 (Paul) whos a great fella and has a Fozza STI. It goes like stink let me tell you.

I am now even thinking about getting a Fozza myself as they are very much under estimated and will leave egg on faces.

If you go through the Alton 06 meet photos his is in there. Just don't ask him about what happend to his SWISSOL card on the dash.

Welcome and enjoy vicmel also.

Steve
