Default Power difference between WRX an UK turbo

An N reg JDM (96 car) will be 260ps, but after that I think they got to 280ps (97 onwards facelift). Uk cars are still 208bhp (215ps????) until 1999.
They're just as tuneable as each other, but with the Japanese Imports you start higher up.

Hi mate

Having owned a 95 wrx and currently a my99 uk turbo I would say figures aside that on a day to day basis you really notice the diffence in output
Not that uk cars are slow just missing that extra grunt
I wish I had gone for another JDM classic as I have only just ended up spending cash to get to the levels of a wrx or sti
Bought it for the service history and peace of mind etc but really just a false economy...better just spend time and to search out a good wrx or sti in my opinion then spend that extra money on handling upgrades

Cheers
Matt

Uk cars a cheaper to insure and will run on 95ron fuel with out a remap, plus all dealers will service the car. Not that I use a dealer for servicing.

AC was an option and you don't get: a rear wiper and folding mirror.

I have a My99 uk turbo and find the gearing better than that of JDM cars, longer gears and a higher 5th. when playing with friends in JDM cars I'm in each gear longer.

But I would agree regarding the turning, I've spent alot of money getting mine to 317BHP where as a little investment would of been required to get a JDM STI to the same state of tune.

That's becuase a 95WRX is 260ps (approx 255BHP) and a 99UK 2
18BHP. Also take into account the slightly shorter gearing in a WRX and your not really comparing like with like.

Plus the TD05 will give a bigger kick up the **** then the TD04.
But the pick-up of the TD04 will be quicker then the TD05.

270BHP - 280BHP is easily achieved from a UK with a decat and ECU remap.
300BHP+ with a slightly bigger turbo.

A STi is a much better starting point, but if you blow up an STi the engine parts are alot more expensive then UK internals.

cheers, think i'll get a quote on a wrx.only got a quote for a uk spec as i know these are only group 17.would probably have to spend a great deal of cash to bring a uk up to jap spec then.ok so if they r 260-280bhp standard how easy is it to get 300bhp+ on one of these,im not tht clued up on them.

I drove a MY95 wrx before I bought a MY96 uk car and mine seemed to be quicker.
Granted they aint the quickest cars around but a uk car is as quick as you need imo

Surely though, if you start messing about with a UK turbo in the long run the insurance would be more because of all the extras you have done to it!
So it would probably be cheaper for you too get an import and lightly mod it

Depends what years your looking at.
If your looking at WRX from 1993 to Sept 1994 then there's not alot in it (WRX @ 240ps on 100RON Vs UK @ 208BHP on 97RON maybe 95RON, both run 11.47psi).
If your looking at WRX from Sept it's 260ps, 12.7psi so the differnce starts to show.
But drop a chip in your 1993-1996 UK and even running just 13.6psi it will be kicking out 255BHP.

It's up to you whether you tell the insurance, but TBH I bet 80% of the chipped Pre96 and post99 ECUTEK's ECU's are not declared, as it's so difficult to tell.

scott you seam to know quite a bit, so why you have never included the my97 onwards wrx as 280ps has baffled me?
