THINKING ABOUT GETTING A WR1
I have had 2 impreza's in the past, a sti version 4 and a sti version 8 both jap spec . Do i spend my cash on a 04 or 54 plate wr1 of get a brand new sti for the same money ?
Any thoughts ?
When i had my jap spec sti 8 it seemed to have lost its "burble" from the exhaust . does the wr1 loose this ?
Cheers

Buy another JDM spec, its a better spec than the WR1 and will be pumping out that sort of power without the need of a remap
The WR1 retains the burble, just remember that the tech in the UK cars is older than their JDM counterparts

i think terry is refering to the aqua blue colour of the wr1. apparently the new 06sti has a decent burble when it has ppp fitted and i bet you could pic one up for sub 25k.
think id prefer twin scroll to burble personally.

The JDM cars lose the burble due to the equal length headers (manifolds) required by the twin scroll turbo. The burble was always a compromise anyway, robbing the car of some power due to uneven gas flow. It's one of the reasons JDM cars are more powerful out of the box. I'd certainly go JDM over a WR1.

You've obviously not experienced just how much smoother the JDM engine is, then. The UK engine may be distinctive and characterful, but the JDM pulls harder (especially at the extreme low and high rev ranges).
If you want the noise, Powerstation's full Milltek system gives you about 340bhp from a JDM car, and I've never heard anyone complain about the noise it makes - at least, not anyone whom I believe has ever actually driven the car.
Ross: If you'd consider a JDM, you could do a lot worse than mine - for sale here.

But at <£19k, your JDM fits my budget - but only just!
What sort of insurance costs have you been paying? And what about servicing intervals and costs (and how easy to find someone to service it)? Since I'm Salisbury/Wiltshire based, Litchfield is not too inconvenient for me I suppose.
Or, to put it another way - give me your sales pitch!!!

Its all about developement, the sound means a restriction somewhere because of it, so they go equal length etc, they also add a-dccd, quick rack steering, uprated engine parts, stronger gearboxes etc, its about the whole not just a part.
Oh and btw, the JDM sounds better than the burble

I have a 2006 MY05 shape Type UK, and i love it.. it also has DCCD-A (so apparently its not just JDM cars that get this)
My reason for choosing a Type UK > JDM was down to insurance, I couldnt get a £1200 quote on a JDM.. more like £1500+
Edit: I love the way the WR1 looks, but like in posts above.. go MY05(and onwards)(better handling due to Spec C suspension)

After having my type 20 nicked 6 weeks ago , i was in the same boat. WR1, standard JDM or type 20 or 25. Test drove each and the JDM is by far the smoother and picks its feet up at much lower revs. Just better all round scooby. AndyC 772' s car is top notch, very nice example, i saw it last friday. But decided to go for the type 25 at litchfield's, should be picking it up any day Another scooby worth taking a look at is the TSL 333 conversion for sale on their website at £19,995.
Happy hunting, my advice is to go and test drive each one and make your own mind up ! Enjoy.

Been thinking of selling my WR1 just recently. What sort of price are you thinking of spending? It's done 26,000 and is 2 1/2 years old. I realize that there are a few better/quicker scoobies out there, but the insurance and full UK warranty tipped the balance for me. It's been a 100% reliable and fun car but I'm having a mid life crisis and have a yen for a 2 seater convertible sports car.
