Default High Milage on New age WRX

I am approaching 50k miles on my newage wrx (04 Plate). The car is completely standard except for Prodrive backbox.

The car has always been serviced by the main dealer, with the 50k service coming i am thinking is it worth keeping the service book with one dealer.

I am looking to fit Prodrive sport cat and walbro fuel pump and go for ECUtek remap after service. (4-6 weeks time) I am covering approx 3000 miles a month at the moment.

Is there anything else i should be doing like a oil change every 5k miles instead of 10k. and what oild would be best for a high miler.

Steve

High-miler? Jesus, it's hardly run in!

Mine's on about 115k and runs perfectly.

I'm running 300hp and change the oil every 10k miles.
Silkolene pro-s 10w50 is the stuff.

The engine will happily do well over 100k with the mods and committed driving provided you maintain it to a high standard... tried and tested by many on here.

I personally wouldn't bother keeping the servicing all at one Subaru dealer. You'll save far more going to an independent specialist than you would ever gain at sale time as a result of doing this - plus you will more than likely get better service.

I change my oil every 5 thousand and use the good stuff. Nothing to really be gained from chaning earlier than this on quality oil. No need to use any sort of high-miler type oil either - Silkolene or Motul is the stuff to go for in my opinion.

I see your point.. But i am just thinking of extra care as the car is covering a considerable number of mile a month. more frequent oil changes...

The higest milage car i ahve owned was a pukka 205 GTI with 45k on it when i was 18... followed by a XR3i which was 10 years old which had 30k on it when i sold it..

Reliability of the standard Impreza was one of the reasons i wanted one, but was trying to take extra care of the motor

Must be costing you a fortune in fuel at 3k per month (36k per year!)
Do the sensible thing and get a diesel for a run about, on the money you save on fuel you will pick up a nice low (100k) miler turbo diesel, if looked after they run for years and on what you will save per month it pays for itself in no time
Ive a Mondeo TD which does me, not very quick but comfortable for those long trips, and I do about 30k per annum in it (129k and going strong )
Quick look at your costs, approx 420-450 per month in unleaded for 3k miles, turn to diesel and you looking at 300 quid, thats up to 150 per month saving, in total thats 1800 per year in fuel alone! ok a cheap td will cost you 1k, insurance 300, tax 180 and your still in pocket

I am not that bothered about the cost of fuel as all 90% is business miles. which i claim back.

I am more concerned about keeping the car in good working order..

beside it depends on where my work is. now i have to do a lot of traveling but at other times its only 7 miles per day.

If you contract or are IR35 then basically your only making money on the first 10k@40ppm, anything after that and its 25ppm, you would be better off with a second car, your service bills on the scoob will more than cover your costs of a second car and give you money in pocket, also if you do the low mile trips in the scoob and the high in the diesel it will be beneficial to you ive been doing it for some considerable time now

Yeah, I'm in a similar position doing a lot of business miles in my wrx. Mines heading for 60,000 miles. Makes the trips much more enjoyable and its always a good start to the day stepping out of a Travelodge to see the Scoob in the car park!
