Lightbulb I know I am dumb

as I got no response from HERE

maybe, it is all about the wrong thread?

I know this has been discussed hunderdmillointimes, but I still can't figure it out for myself.

Now, what I have is classic, completely STOCK MY95 JDM WRX Type RA STi ver2
and, not so long ago I have purchased
this downpipe from ebay:

Item: Generic Stainless Steel Downpipe for Subaru Impreza WRX/ WRX STi 02 03 04 05 Part number: REGDPSI0205
Spec & Features:

* 100% SUS-304 Stainless Steel with Computerized Mandrel-Bent
* CNC Machine Flanges for Strong Solid Support
* TIG Weld for Strength and Durability
* 3 Stage Polish Shine Like a Mirror
* Increase 10-16 Horse Power and Torque
* Straight thru Design and Bolt-On Installation

Dimension (Inlet/ outlet):

* 3.0" inlet and 3.0" outlet

Applcaition:

* Subaru Impreza WRX/ WRX STi 2002 2003 2004 2005
* All model

I asked the following questions to the dealer:

1. Will this unit mate up to the rest of my exhaust? Some downpipes will fit the stock exhaust, or must be fitted to a larger exhaust.
2. Will this unit throw a CEL?
3. Does it come with new gaskets? It is always a good idea to replace exhaust gaskets.
4. How hard is it to install a downpipe?
5. How do I install a downpipe?
6. What about ceramic or other heat wrap coating?
7. is the flange donought type or flat flange?
8. Is this JDM specification design or not?
9. I mean can I bolt it to JDM GC8 chassis stock exhaust(from catback)?
10. will the flanges of your downpipe mate the flanges of stock catback?
11. the Megan downpipe here - http://stores.ebstores.us/Items/MRDPSI0205?sck=76319413 has the same picture & description. What is the difference?

the reply was like this:

not sure what is your exhasut, this item will fit on stock.
it may casue the CEL on, and the pictrure already shows what are included in the package.
we do not have tech support on how to install parts, please seek help from the professional.
no coating, its stainless steel.

and

hi,
this will replace the downpipe, and its based on euro model, and its tested on US model also.
this will fit on the stock car.

and

the 2 items have similar design, but Megan got 1 year warranty, generics got no warrnaty.
this downpipe is tested on the stock car, and fits all model within the year range we listed.
if you want to return it due to the fitment, you have to ship it back and we will issue the item price refund.
we will send you email with tracking ( if avaiable) once its shipped.

Argh, those USish guys are all about newage cars.

All they say is The picture of the downpipe shows actual item.

I just do not know what to expect now, as the dealer seems to know even less than me about their product...

I think in US, they have similar Imprezas as you guys, the same specs ?
And I know, lots of you run JDM imported ones.
Classical GC8 one is
And I know, you Briton love it.
If so, you should know the answers to my questions for sure!
Please, don't let the subie owner get too frustrated. Put some feedback,m8s

  1. looking at the gaskets, can't you tell me more about it?
  2. The length of the downpipe, is ok ?
  3. Will the flange of the downpipe mate the JAP midpipe ?
  4. Will I have a leak ?
  5. Will the CEL come on ?

Perhaps, some highly sophisticated scoby m8, looking at the pictures can tell what the thing is all about.

PS : Michael, I am really sorry, your engine let go, but hey, look at P.Solberg a.k.a. the Looser.

if you have a new-age d/pipe then it is the wrong length for a 'classic' GC8 car........................sorry

as for the rest of your questions then no generally de-cat d/pipes on your age of car won't cause a CEL

thanks for the reply Alyn!

downpipe length wise, the new age cars in US are not the same as new age cars in europe. It is more like JDM , if I am not mistaken ?

even more tight - it's actuall sth like 63mm - is it 2.25" ?

But, then again, lots of people seem to have no problems mounting thier 3" HKS Downpipes to stockish/OEM midpipes anf mufflers (catbacks) on 'classics'

what is it you need to know exactly??? The pipe will not fit a classic as the description says its for a newage. v From the picture it certainly looks like it wont fit a classic.

With regards to leaks, if it is fitted correctly (assuming its the right fitment in the first place) then no, it should not leak.

If its 3" on both ends then I dont believe it would mate up to the rest of the system as the systems is only 2.?" diameter. A lot of downpipes start off at 3 " and then taper down slightly to fit the oe system.
