Ultimate Impreza for UK (Autoexpress)
#5
The following has been taken from this weeks copy of autoexpress:
The new Impreza WRX too tame for you? This is the car the real performance junkies have been waiting for - the 280bhp version tweaked by the companys tuning division STI.
As with previous versions of the STI, which became a favorite with grey importers, the new model is based on the standard WRX, but has styling, engine, suspension and gearbox modifications. All of which promise to make it one of the fastest accelerating Subaru's ever, with a 0 - 60 time of less than 4.5 secs - putting it head to head with the Mitsubishi Evo VI.
Unlike the old STi though, there are plans to officialy import the new car to Europe - but we will have to wait as the companys engineers are struggling to get the powerful engine through tough exhaust emissions regs.
Hiroya Okumo, Subarus engine design manager, promised his development team was working hard to make the 280bhp unit Euro compliant. But he has warned that it was still 18 months away .
Differences to the WRX unit for the japenese market include a bigger turbo and intercooler raising the power from 215bhp and boosting torque from 292Nm to 373nm. The new engine is mated to a special six-speed close ratio gearbox and limited slip diff. Suspension tweaks can be specified by the customer to include bigger wheels, lower springs, bigger brembo brakes and strut braces to stiffen the bodyshell and prevent flex.
There is also a whole raft of STi branded styling additions, the most popular likely to be the more attractive and effective Xenon gas discharge headlamps.
Phew
If there is enough intrest I will scan the pics and post them under this thread.

Is this an optional ultra ground hugging front spoiler? If so, it's not optional in my book! On the lineup page on the STi site you can view the car in silver, black, white & blue - the blue looks massively better IMO. In fact I'll take the wheels and the wing also.

Hi All
I don't know why I didn't spot this earlier, and for that I apologise, but....
Copying and pasting articles from other publications is illegal.
I have spoken with Autoexpress and they are happy for THIS article to stay on this occasion as they can see that it is of interest to us, but...
Can I ask that we don't do this in future though, and that approval is sought before any copies of other publications are posted on this board?
Best regards
webmaster
PS. Thank you to Autoexpress for being so understanding.
