Default Smoke from Bonnet Scoop MY94WRX

Hi All,

I have some Oil residue around the area marked in the picture and was wondering if this is the norm , if it isn't what is advised. I'm not a mechanic as such.

Picture is getting up loaded tonight - DOH - Oil residue is towards engine following the air induction. a small pipe coming off the large airinduction pipe has oil residue over it - Pic on the way (sorry)

the smoke comes from just behing the Dump valve. The small black pipe the other side of the air in pipe (fat one) has a square shape end pipe underneath it, it only shows the top of the metal clip (wire loop endfastener) its a bit dark on pic. This square end has the oil on it.

It does tend to smoke very gently from that area, whilst sitting in traffic you can sometimes see whisps of it, only very slightly.

unsure what to do.

Cheers.
Morg.

cant see the picture but could it be a slight oil leak from the rocker cover area as this is quite common, especially on the older cars.

What is advised ? I live in South leicester and don't even now anything about changing rocker covers. I can't even find any decent (haynes type) manuals to helpme work it out How much would something like this cost to fix ?

Cheers.

Oh is it still okay to keep driving it 70 miles a day carefully ?

If it is the rocker cover gasket they are around £15 from Subaru and get the spark plug hole seals as well (about £6 each iirc). You need to specify that it's for the O/S as they are different on each side. Mate is a mechanic and charged me £30 to do the gaskets and fit new plugs last week on mine.

Cheers for these comments, I just need to clarify that it is the rocker cover.

I was even wondering if it was a pipe ? Oh joy.

Is it okay to still use in the mean time ?

yes its still okay to drive as usually the amount of oil leaking is minimal. Just need to keep an eye on the oil levels though just to make sure.

TSL are around leicester I think maybe get in touch with them.

TSL are in Keyworth but I think you might find a little pricey.

Better still call Carnetix on 01664 562592 and ask for Glen or Becky.
they are both ex TSL mechanics who now work for themselves in Melton Mowbray (tell em Ralph told you to call)
