Unhappy Impreza prices

I've been following the prices of newages ever since i bought mine back in february this year and I have to say that I can't believe that the **** has fallen out of these so much

I payed 18k for my WR blue 04 STI with PPP on 8k miles and by the looks of it, I reckon its lost about another 3 grand since then..... if I'm lucky!!!

I thought I was getting a cult car that wouldn't depreciate that much over the 18 months - 2 years that I was planning on keeping it, but it seems like I've really shot myself in the foot

So much so that I can GUARANTEE that I won't be buying another scoob ever!!! Now I've had no problems, faults, niggling rattles or anything and the car performs amazingly. Its everything i expected and wanted it to be, but at the end of the day, its just too damn expensive.

Trouble is, what the hell do I buy autumn/winter when it comes to the next car?

Disheartened nearly new scooby owner

As said car loose money..!

If you're changing cars often then you will loose more money, even buying 2nd hand..! How do you think the guys who bought new at 24k feel now that <2yrs on and their cars worth <15k..!!?

Even my old mans 52 330d sport lost 10k in less than two years and they were considered to be one of the best for residuals..!

Maybe you need to see what you can get on Fleabay..? My brother's just bought a very tidy 53 saxo desire with 10k on the clock for £1800. Trade price for this is ~£2500..!

I think you paid £2k too much for it, and is probably worth about £14k now. So £2k loss, over the year is a lot, but surely you knew it would be coming, for a 2 year old car. I'm in the same boat, but have thrown £ks at modifying it.

Just keeping modding it, in the false economy you'll get more money back.

I guess you're all right

Its a bitter pill to swallow tho.

I suppose I did get a good trade in on my old car as it was from a dealer.

I must admit tho, the idea of spending more on mods has already taken hold big time

where has your "eye" been Rob? Subarus have depreciated at a fair rate of knots for some time.

I agree though it isn't good. Like you I paid £18.5k for my 53 plate sti back in April last year. Probably be lucky to see £13.5k back now and I've only done 6k miles in it. Figures aren't helped by the fact that I keep on bloody spending on it.

Between my Classic and my Newage I could have paid my mortgage off. Thats when it hits home.............

Now you have it enjoy it mate.

What's the other reason?
Yes there is a need, it's called a reality check
PPPRob isn't in the dictionary either.
Not as stupid as someone moaning about depreciation in a car that's yet to need it's first MOT.
Anything else?

Grow some more layers of skin FFS.

Do your homework on ANY mainstream car when buying nearly new. Only the thick or the wealthy buy a newish car with no concern of resale value.

My last two Imprezas have been at least 6 years old.

Don't worry PPPRob. It pisses a lot of people off about the depreciation, it's just that is the last thing they want to hear, someone moaning about it. It makes them remember how much they're losing too.

It just goes hand in hand with the MPG threads.

If you think what you could've done/bought with the £2k depreciation, bet nothing would make your heart race as much, nor smile as much. Bet ya. No expensive hooker, pure charlie or 100 year old malt could!

The one I have now has cost me 5k so far with buying it and putting in a new engine. Next week It'll have the rest of APIs conversion bringing things to 320 bhp ish costing about 1.4k. So in total I should have a very fast reliable car for 6.5k which *should* be its market price if I wanted to sell.

There was once a day when Imprezas had rock solid residuals and even on a brand new car after a few years of owning it you'd not see a massive drop, if indeed any drop. Sadly, it's all about supply and demand and prices these days reflect this. Even look at a 996 turbo, you'd be amazed how much they lose within 3 years.

I shall never be buying a new car again. I prefer somebody else take the big depreciation hits for me. Over the years I have lost 23k on Imprezas just on depreciation. It is a bit silly really as I could have found better avenues for my cash.

If/when you do decide to sell your car it may be worth going back in time like me and you'd feel a lot happier with Impreza ownership knowing you aren't getting hurt with depreciation.
