Default Ipod Dension icelink

Do i go for the:-

icelink plus that connects to the CD changer port £99
Advatages: Functions controlled by car head unit, inc steering wheel controls
Disadvantage: Car specific

or

icelink fm modulator that wires dorectly into the aerial
Advatages: None car specific
Disadvantage: All controls except volume, conrolled by via ipod, no steering wheel controls

Has anyone tried both of these, does the sound quality differ?? I'm just worried you can get interference on the FM channel version

My understanding is that the iPod type outputs are digital. The CD input is digital. An FM transmitter is an analogue device.

So for the latter you need to go digital to analogue conversion (loss of quality), transmit (loss of quality), receive, convert to speaker output.

All this means is you will get better quality on the former. Just the same as the difference between listening to a CD rather than a tape or between listening to DAB rather than FM radio.

Bit - pricey! I have one for my Sony HD3 player going into my CD change control on my head unit- £50..

But the car specific models can be pricier. Is yours a Subaru OEM head unit?

BTW, the FM transmitters are utter gash.

I use an itrip! you have to use the ipods controls volume accepted, but it's no big deal.

Right - buts its OEM as opposed to a Sony or Pannny or whatever.

I see what it is now - Surely you can't use the change control though? I.e. you will have to change tracks etc through the iPod?

I would pay the extra £30 personally - but then I'm a fussy git
