Depends what model you have. Most usually go with Tesco 99 or V-Power. Saying that, it's all down to which works best for YOUR car. What are you using at the moment?

Whatever it is set up for standard, or has been mapped to.

BP Ultimate is the most powerful, but very expensive.

You'll find the majority of people here use: V-Power/Tesco 99

It has to be V Power. Optimax was good, and if this V Power is all its cracked up to be, by that i mean a true 99 RON, then it will be even better.
I have only ever used Shell, both the above for my car and it performs best on them. BUT please bear in mind on both Optimax and then 2 weeks ago V Power, my car has been mapped for it and so it should be good.
I never rated BP SUL 97 RON, thought it was ****e, and i am fcuked if i am paying for thier £2-40 a litre pish.
Never use Supermarket fuel imho, and i had one occasion where i had to fill up with 95 RON, and i never drove with high revs until i got rid of it all.
Paranoid? Yes, i am and thats how i like it

Sainsbury's super for me!

the sti does around 50 miles more to a tank against v-power/optimax,also i see no differance in performanceand the other factor is that at my local shell garage, the v-power is 14 pence a litre more then normal unleaded

so 85.9p for sainsbury's against 97.9p for v-power

i know where my money goes

I use Tesco 99
The car runs so much better, doesn`t splutter like it did on OTHER fuel.
Power delivery is so much smoother, without the splutters.

v-power for me. used to fill up with sainbury's super unleaded, then tried tesco's 99. neither compare with v-power much more smoother, the car seems to accelerate quicker as well though that could just be in my head!!!

Aye, i noticed i'd forgot to put in the all important 102 in my first thread. Suerly they could've come up with different names. BP UL, BP SUL, BP Ultimate would make more sense.

I've been running V-Power for 5-6 tanks now and noticed I have more activity on the knocklink compared to Optimax. Running on Optimax I had better fuel consumption as well!

I use Sainsburys super unleaded as its the only one I can get for miles around me. Anyone know if any Tescos in the Belfast area sell 99?

Japanese Performance Magazine November 2006

Quote:-

"If you want the best-performing high-octaine petrol, then fill your tank with Tesco Octane 99. Thats the recommendation of Silverstone-based Thorney Motorsport (TMS) after its recent exhaustive, inderpendent, eight-month test of three fuels avaliable at UK filling stations (the other two were Shell Optimax and BP Ultimate).

Tests were carried out on various cars, including a Toyota MR2, and involved running the cars on Total 95 octane for three tankfulls, then repeating the process with the high-octane brands. Power outputs were measured on TMS's Dyno Dynamics rolling road, with meticulous attention to ambient temperature, humidity and other factors.

'There was a clear improvement in torque and power, both on the road and on the dyno,' siad TMS boss John Thorne of Tesco 99.

However, Shell Optimax has now evolved into Shell V-Power and risen to 99 octane, so the headline could read differntly now. V-Power costs 7p a litre more than regular 95, and 1p more than Optimax.

The highest octane petrol available in the UK is BP Ultimate 102, which costs around £2.42 a litre. BP has just announced that the number of sites stocking Ultimate will rise from six to 30.

Maybe TMS will do a back-to-back test but include the new V-Power.

V Power for me. Although if a tescos has 99 I'll fill up with that too.

Anything less and a bottle of VSP comes out!

The TMS test used normally aspirated cars, not turbos. It would have been useful to see a turbo engine included and see whether the results were still similar
