Do they do a Turbo?
Approached a line of traffic at some lights today and stopped.
Looked in the rear mirror and noticed something coming up fairly quickly. Noticed the turbo scoop & the Scooby Stars, it's one of us, I thought.
When he moved off, it was a Legacy Estate with a private plate and a nice souding exhaust.
Scuse me but, thought that Legacy's didn't do a Turbo?
Thanks.

And what did McRae used to run about in?
Legacys were turbo'd before Imprezas even existed.
Underneath the older models are pretty much identical.
Of course new Legacy Turbos aren't imported to the UK anymore, although they are still in production.

Crikey, Shark Man this was a nice looking motor with big wheels and stuff, it looked smart and moved pretty rapidly.
You say Colin had one of these?
Wonder when they stopped bringing them into the UK and, why did they stop?
Would see off Volvo's and other big Estates in that format.
I've learned something new tonight, thanks.

According to the guy who claims to have worked for I.M; He said they didn't have type approval so couldn't be sold in the UK by main dealers. Of course, this wouldn't stop anyone importing them privately from Japan.
This was Colin's old car from way back in 1991 (No imprezas back then - proper homologation rally cars back in those days ): http://www.pistech.karoo.net/Images/...ae_Manx_91.jpg
As for the newer cars, you may want to have a nose at this thread I posted a while back ...

Shark Person,
Brilliant! I had no idea about this, thanks a lot. I wonder why they don't expand the range?
As I said, Volvo, BMW, Audi etc eat your heart out in the Estates stake, if you get my drift.
In the Scottish Highlands, it's all Landrovers & Scoobs of all shapes and sizes, Pickups, Justys, Legacys, Imprezas, Foresters etc.
Thanks once again for that useful reply, a you know on SN it can sometimes be not so interesting.

Early Legacys were basically the forerunner for the Impreza with a turbo and a chargecooler. Later models are available in twin turbo form, famed for their VoD (Valley of Death) as the small turbo ran out of puff, but the larger turbo not on spool.
I considered an RSK twin turbo model to use as a commuter car, but I the fuel economy and insurance costs ruled it out. Shame really they are very cheap to buy now (MY99 RSK for as little as £4k!! )
Shame the Subaru Baja is a US model only. A Legacy based pick up truck would make a more interesting family car than the Forester!

Mac, note an Air Induction kit, and the STI Logo, along with Gold alloys!
Way ahead of it's time, when was this??
Andy, didn't realise that you are also a fan.
Great learning evening for me, TV tonight in comparison, this is much better!

That's a very tidy Legacy James
The air induction kit is aftermarket, the STI logo is sticker and the wheels are from a MY00 Impreza (probably the wheels off the STIs that became P1s)
It was during my phase to replace an Impreza with something more discrete, but still retaining the Impreza performance.

Got it in one Andy, had a sign writers that we used make me up some stickers, the wheels are off a P1 before they were changed for OZ items. I also had 4 pot brakes, the K+N induction kit, Blitz dump valve, full Mongoose exhaust, and it had also been chipped by the previous owner.
I think the pic was taken back in 2001, but I dont have the car any more:frown:
Had it rolling roaded back in early 2002 and it was putting out 247bhp, not bad for a 10 year old car with over 150K on the clock at the time
