My STi is due it's 1000 mile service in a few weeks and wondered what oil the dealer will use as standard or is there any other oil I can ask him to put in as an extra cost, also does it make any difference using 95 RON fuel as the sticker on the fuel lid says to use 98 RON. Could I use Optimax without having to have the car re-mapped?

The Subaru dealer will put the recommended oil in and it will be fine and it will keep the warranty happy.I use BP super which is 97 RON and its ok.95 RON is ok as a get you home fix but dont use it regulary it will affect performance and mpg and possible engine damage

If the sticker on the fuel lid says use 98 octane, then use 98 octane! (The sticker is applied by the manufacturer of the car) You would notice a nice little power improvement if you used Tesco 99 octane or Shell V-Power fuel, also 99 octane.

what RON is optimax? and if I use it all the time will I need a remap?

Give or take Optimax is a shade over 98 RON depending on how long it's been in the tanks.

You don't need a remap as the newage ECU is pretty good at learning BUT I'd ask the garage to reset the ECU if you have been using 95 RON just to give the ECU a "clean sheet" when learning with higher RON fuel.
